This book, like many others that I have read throughout looking into more poetry, tells and continues a story with each poem. Not only is it easy to understand what is going on within the poem, but the illustrations also aid in how the understanding of the poem. I enjoy these types for younger children.
Other than this, there is a constant rhythm to these poems. Not all have the constant flow, but most of them are very rhythmic throughout.

This story was too complicated for me to really enjoy. I think it was way too wordy and the rhythm was constantly changing. I don‘t think this would be a good classroom book.

This 2017 collection of poems tells the story of a John Keats through “chapters.” The poems are kind of wordy and they aren‘t succinct at all. I couldn‘t always easily find the rhythm so I think young students would struggle to enjoy this book. I really like the illustrations but I wasn‘t a fan of the story and the way it was set up.

Keats use of rhyme would get the students actively involved by guessing the next word. Also illustrator Raschka does beautiful work.

Super easy to get lost in these illustrations! Beautiful watercolor.

Published in 2017, definitely a great book, versatile for older and younger age groups. The placement of the sentences will probably make more sense being read out loud to younger children, while older would be able to read on their own. Very unique sentence structure for a poetry book!

A sing-songy book with interesting syntax! It definitely makes you pay attention while you read but also the illustrations and rhyming make it really fun

A Song About Myself by John Keats (poetry, published 2017) is a poetic prose. I really enjoyed the book, it rhymed and the sentence structure was anything but ordinary. There was also a line through every page and pictures around it that would be right side up but also upside down and just all over. It would have the be for a little of older children but I enjoyed it

“He took in his knapsack a book full of vowels and a shirt with some towels- a slight cap for night cap, a hair brush, comb ditto, new stockings, for old ones would split O!”

I can see this as a book that I would love to read at a loud and fast pace with my students. They would really get excited and then it could lead into a conversation about travel and what they bring on vacation!

Published in 2017- A Song About Myself is one long poem that uses rhyme schemes and children‘s love of exploring to create a poem about a boy who runs away to different places. I love how the author uses various items and many ideas to make a poem that is almost as wild and crazy as the inside of a child‘s mind. There are repetitions of certain verses in the poem, but overall it is fun and unpredictable!

“Was as red- that lead Was as weighty, That fourscore Was as eighty, That a door Was as wooden As in England-“

The illustrations in this book were amazing.

A Song about Myself by John Keats published in 2017 was such a cute poetry book. Some of the wording may be a little confusing for younger children so I would recommend 2nd grade and up! It talks about 4 different stories of a “naughty” boy and instances he travels upon. I thinks its quirky with a sense of creativity. I think children would enjoy the rhythm in this book.

Sweet book for his sister, a little tongue twister- oh the good brother charm ha! This book was very interesting, the words somehow flow out of your mouth as you read this book. I found myself reader faster and faster as the pages flipped! This book can be a great addition for the classroom library. It demonstrates yet another style of poetry. The teaching strategies that can be provided by this book are RA, S, RT, SR, CR.

A Song About Myself written by John Keats and illustrated by Chris Raschka is poetry story about the wondrous adventure of a "naughty boy" that runs away to Scotland. This poem was originally a letter that he wrote to his sister. A UDL Strategy I would use for this poem is 7.2. ESOL Strategies 16, 40, and 22. I couldn't find any lesson that directly went with the book, however, I did find a link that has lessons for poems. #UCFLAE3414SP18
