“I was young then, and full of trigger-itch; I thought that because fewer wolves meant more deer, that no wolves meant a hunters‘ paradise. But after seeing the green fire die, I sensed that neither the wolf nor the mountain agreed with such a view.”

Tamra This is a wonderful read! 2y
AmandaBorchers @Tamra it‘s so good! I am reading it for a class and didn‘t expect to agree with so much of his philosophy! 2y

Hi, I‘m Amanda! I used to teach kindergarten at a classical school but took a break to pursue a legal education. I‘m finishing up my last year of law school at William & Mary. I love classic children‘s literature, Victorian novels, coming of age stories, comfy cozy novels, hard boiled detective stories, and gripping memoirs. Besides reading I love rock climbing, cooking, and card games. I can‘t wait to see what you all are reading!

The Maidens: A Novel | Alex Michaelides

This was a quick, classic detective novel. I wasn‘t loving the writing style at first and I normally like slower paced setting heavy stories but for a quick engaging story I recommend it.

KristiAhlers I felt the same way about that one too! 3y

Hi #groupD! I am following Takara‘s lead here and throwing up some books/authors I am considering for #round13. The 400 page limit narrowed my selection a bit but if these don‘t interest you guys I can happily round up a few more! Let me know if any of these look good to you or if I‘ve chosen authors you can‘t stand 😂 -Amanda

BeckyWithTheGoodBooks I have read “The Dutch House,” but would be happy to read any of your other selections! 3y
carlthecattt The Dutch House and Strange Pilgrims sound so good! I haven‘t read any of these before 3y
AmandaBorchers I can also sub in a different Ann Patchett book! 3y

BeckyWithTheGoodBooks @AmandaBorchers Another Ann Patchett would be great too! The only other book of hers that I‘ve read is “Bel Canto.” (edited) 3y
AmandaBorchers The Magician‘s Assistant by Ann Patchett could be a good option! I feel like I have the most confidence in Number 9 Dream because David Mitchell tells a great story. 3y
BeckyWithTheGoodBooks @AmandaBorchers Either of those sound great! 3y
AmandaBorchers @Pogue do you have a preference? 😁 3y
Pogue I have not read any of them. So pick the book you want to read. 3y

A beautiful and moving personal story of life with bipolar. This was a super quick read—I was totally engrossed in the author‘s life story. If you have any interest at all in mental health or just like fast paced memoirs…this is it!

She's Come Undone | Wally Lamb

This is a coming of age story about a young woman facing the trauma of her past. I did feel at times like the characters were a little one dimensional but I was still hooked by the story and wanted to know what was going to happen next. She‘s Come Undone is not as good as some of Wally Lamb‘s other work but if you‘re looking for a winding story of personal triumph that could double as a beach read-you‘ve found it!

Wow this book was such a treat. It had the feel of a Victorian novel but with a great little mystery. After listening to The Literary Life podcast episode on this book, I realized a lot of the literary references went over my head but the story was still enjoyable. A great comfy cozy October read!

David Mitchell tells a great story and as always, weaves in surprising and engaging fantastical elements. It feels like an elevated beach read.
