Detroit‘s Mark Twain library, which was closed in 1996 for renovations and never reopened. Just look at all of the forgotten volumes. It‘s tragic. I want to go in and find them all new, loving homes. The poor dears.

kmshaffer Wow! 5y
GingerAntics @kmshaffer right? You‘d think even if you weren‘t going to reopen the library, you‘d give the books to other libraries that were open, but apparently not. Just imagine what has been lost, because the books were just left to slowly decay. That pile of books makes me sad, and not just because the pages are getting ruined. 5y
AlaSkaat Treasures lost at sea. They should have packed those books, if they didn't need them, and sent them to poor countries where Libraries and books are needed. Such a waste!! 5y

julesG I can't believe it. 😢 5y
JazzFeathers I can't believe it. What's the sense of it? If you don't mean to reopen the library, donate the books to who will enjoy them. It's heartbreaking. It's madness. 5y
Bklover Noooooo!!!😢 5y
kmshaffer No kidding! I‘m sure many libraries would love to have these lost treasures! Makes me sad too 😢 5y
Weaponxgirl That‘s awful! Why waste so much in general, let alone books! 5y
Tamra How horrible. 5y
Crazeedi What a tragic photo! Makes my heart hurt 5y
GingerAntics @OleAnder @julesG @JazzFeathers @Bklover @kmshaffer @Weaponxgirl @Tamra @Crazeedi if nothing else, let book lovers come take them. They‘ll give them good homes or take them to libraries in their communities. Mark Twain must be rolling over in his grave. It‘s so sad. I guess this is just more proof that America does not care about knowing things, just having things. Well, most of America. (edited) 5y
AlaSkaat Books are sooo undervalued 😕 5y
ravenlee We need some book ninjas to liberate these poor orphans. 5y
