Marr meticulously researched early settler accounts of Australia‘s invasion, with a focus on the Native Police. He tells the story of his own ancestors, & if their behaviour is representative, it was a blood bath. It almost became monotonous, reading injustice after injustice. Attitudes, events & circumstances conspired to insure the decimation of Aboriginal people. There were people who stood up for what was right, but not nearly enough 😔.

LeeRHarry This sounds like a really tough read. Hope you‘re coping with the heat over there ok. 🤞 3mo
MrsMalaprop @LeeRHarry It was tough, but very good and I‘m glad I read it. It reinforced for me that people don‘t change that much. There will always be people who have open minds and empathy and there will always be those who don‘t. 3mo
MrsMalaprop @LeeRHarry I‘ve been lucky enough to be in air con this week! My son & his girlfriend are very happy to be flying to Melbourne tonight 😮‍💨. 3mo

Appreciating this thoroughly researched book about the “settlement” (invasion) of Australia a mere 200 years ago.

The Last Daughter | Brenda Matthews

In Australia we think of the Stolen Generation (where Aboriginal children were systematically taken from their families and placed in institutions or with white families) as being long ago. Brenda Matthews and her siblings were taken in 1973, when she was 2 years old. I am her age. 😢😡 #knowyourhistory #truthtelling

This was so damned good 🔥👌🏼♥️. Claire G. Coleman is awesome. I‘ve read her two novels and now this book of essays examining the settler colonisation of Australia. Do yourself a favour and get hold of anything she writes. #truthtelling #knowyourtruth

Rissreads Look at the view! 💚 3y
MrsMalaprop Yes, it‘s a nice little spot. Same view, different book today 🙏😎. 3y
ClairesReads This view is stunning? Is this home for you? 2y
MrsMalaprop @ClairesReads no, this was taken on a recent holiday in Mandurah, 45 minutes south of where I live in Perth, Western Australia 😊. 2y

Making a start on Claire G Coleman‘s latest offering. The title says it all and this quote in the Introduction sets the scene for “a personal exploration of the impact of colonisation” in Australia. I‘m strapping myself in. #currentlyreading #truthtelling

‘Australia Day‘ Jan 26 has well and truly passed this year, but I saw this book in a book shop and had to buy it. It‘s a beautiful children‘s book that explores Jan 26 from an Aboriginal perspective. Lots of children (and adults!) would benefit greatly from reading this book. #truthtelling

This MF animal fantasy is one on a series called Pig the Pug. The story is about a trouble-making pug named Pig that gets into trouble but always blames it on someone else... but he learns his lesson about lying. This book would be great for PR and partners can discuss their connections to Pig‘s actions as they read! #ucflae3414sp21

Chaseb UDL strategies 7.2 optimizing relevance and value, and 8.3 foster collaboration would work well with this book. As well as EL strategy 2 promote cooperation & 4 link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge would work well with partnered reading.
I think this book (or the series) is a must for classroom libraries!
