Survivor's Guilt | Robyn Gigl

I was in the mood for a good mystery and this one is hitting the spot! I've been meaning to check out this series. It's about Erin McCabe, a trans attorney who tends to take on complex cases and interesting clients. The author is also trans and an attorney, and you can tell she knows what's she's talking about. This case is about an apparent suicide that opens up a can of worms involving shady encryption software and human trafficking. #TransBooks

I do not collect much manga at all, just Junji Ito and a then the random interesting horror I stumble across, but this is a series written by an actual trans person so I had to check it out. Bought the others after I finished the first so guess I‘m enjoying it.

An incredible book. In a series of letters, Cecilia Gentili writes to friends, foes, and family in her hometown of Galvez, Argentina. She writes with a breathtaking directness, a remarkable vulnerability, and a charming sense of humour. Her charisma oozes off the page. Gentili shares how she was targeted and sexually abused as a queer, trans kid. It's heavy, heartbreaking. But, remarkably, this book is consistently funny and endlessly gracious. 💜

JacqMac Great review! I‘m adding this one to the TBR. Thanks. 1mo

The goriest, most violent book I've ever read. Its concepts and world-building are terrifying: both the idea of this virus that turns humans with a certain testosterone level into raging homicidal rapist zombies and the TERF army that emerges as a result. This book has a lot to say about transmisogyny (today and in a post-apocalyptic setting) as well as relationships between trans women. The characterization left me a bit wanting though.

An incredible story: meticulous threads of plotlines, endearing and complex characters, unique mix of genres, and sensory prose that delights equally in food and music. It's part trans girl musician runaway tale, part alien adventure on earth, part older Asian sapphic love story, and part Faustian epic about selling your soul for musical success. Its tone is joyful and hopeful, despite being upfront about transmisogyny. Delightful, surprising.

"New men, she thought... Like Coke Zero. Same great vicious disregard for our lives, none of the socially enforced restraint."

Wow, this is mesmerizing and disgusting and scary. I love it!

Am I gonna start it anyway? Yup.

I've read some great books in 2022, but this delightfully weird novel about a trans vampire archivist is my favourite so far. An eccentric romance; a fascinating character study; conversations about life stories, archives, music, fanfiction and fandom, vampirism, being trans, and grief; a supernatural archival mystery. A very unique take on vampirism. Beautifully and thoughtfully written. Awesome #audiobook narration by Dani Martinek.

khooliha As soon as I finished this book I thought "If this isn't one of my favorite books of the year then I'm going to have an incredible year of reading." 8mo
CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian @khooliha oh I have no doubt this will be one of my favourites! 8mo
