September | Rosamunde Pilcher

Pickpick

Love this picture of my first copy of September. Carried it on the plane and in the car as we traveled around Scotland in 2017.

Timeline Readalong ends today. Enjoyed my reread. It's a bit dated in places. But it has my favorite things about Rosamunde Pilcher reads - plucky older woman character and beautiful descriptions. However Winter Solstice remains my favorite.📖 🚘🍁🍂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

How fitting that my Timeline Readalong of September by Rosamunde Pilcher has started back up. Last few days there has been a hint of fall with cool mornings. Not that it will last. Sunday forecast high is 101F/38C.

While the majority of the story takes place in September, 100 pages of it are set in August. Short chapters that are perfect with my morning tea as I dream of fall in Scotland. 🌞🫖🍁🍂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Happy September ‼️ Read this Rosamunde Pilcher 5 yrs ago on a trip to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Every year I think I'll reread along the Timeline and I pick up book to remember it starts in May. 😄 Proceeds with Sections June, July, August and doesn't get to September until page 225.

Maybe next year I'll spend Summer in Scotland? After all now that it's #meteorologicalautumn time to plan 2023 Reading Challenges. 😄

tokorowilliamwallace I just found and picked this one up from the resale charity shop today! 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @tokorowilliamwallace I don't remember anything about it, except that I liked it. 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks So pretty 😍 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks thank you! I repotted the pathos and it's very happy. I'm going to have to move the resident frog out before I bring it inside for the winter. 🐸 2y

Panpan

This has been my least favorite Rosamunde Pilcher. They're always a bit dated but usually a comfort read.

Main Character is just way to whiny and weak. The mysterious surgery for women's issues that if it doesn't work will have to have Hysterectomy. Plus the ‘If I can‘t give you a child, I can‘t give you anything.‘ storyline wasn't my thing.

And someone poisons a dog.

tokorowilliamwallace I wonder if I still have the Pilcher I picked up thrifting or the library sale. 2y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @tokorowilliamwallace Winter Solstice is my favorite. My big fall Pilcher will be 2y

Winter Solstice | Rosamunde Pilcher
post image

Lights in the glasshouse look particularly festive on long winter nights.

Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher from my #forevershelf seems appropriate this evening. Story actually starts in the fall with Winter Solstice beginning on page 318. Even if I don't reread every year I often revist the Holiday ending.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Haley Atwell's Narration is perfection! And of all the covers of various editions of The Shell Seekers, this Audible one is my favorite. It captures the description of painting Title takes its name from.

While this is probably the most famous of RP's Novels I hadn't ever read it. It has everything you expect: Spunky Women of a Certain Age, Family Sagas, & Cozy Settings. In a few places It's a bit dated.⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig My favorite thing as always is her descriptions of Gardens:
"The conservatory was stone- floored, furnished with basket chairs and stools and a lot of faded cretonne cushions. It was as well very warm, leafy with greenery and pot plants, and heavy with the scent of freesias, which grew in abundance and were Penelope‘s favourite flower."

marleed I read it this summer and loved it too! 3y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @marleed I saved it for September because I love September at the beach. 3y

Bit dated. Silly young women waiting around for a men to notice them, marry them,
husband's expecting them to set at home while they play golf. I Do always like RP's spunky Women of a Certain Age. Mostly I read RP for the settings of Scotland and the Gardens. As a gardener in Oklahoma where it was 100°F this summer, Envious of characters rising at 8:30am and out to work in the garden by 10am.

With Spring comes gardening and my reading goes to mostly audio. And while I have 3 beautiful copies of Emma on my #forevershelf it's mostly going to be the fabulous Juliet Stevenson audio for #Pemberlittens @sprainedbrain Emma May Readalong.
