4 ⭐ Upon reading this book I was trying to figure out why this book was banned. It was a story of monkeys. They showed off their fingers, they played the drums and other instruments, and talked with friends. Why was this book banned? Apparently, someone thought that this book was associating African culture with monkeys. I don‘t see this because the moneys do more than play drums, they also play banjos and fiddles. I don‘t think African ⬇

I am long overdue for a check-in with my Litsy family. I‘ve been AWOL for awhile. The last couple of years have been rough but things are getting better. And I realized today how much I miss Litsy and all of the great friends I‘ve met on here. So, I‘m back!

Apples to Oregon.... was written by Deborah Hopkinson. This book highlights the adventure of a family that moves from Iowa to Oregon to plant an apple orchard.

What I like about this book is how it incorporates artists and musicians all people would be familiar with. For me Tupac was one that stood out to me.

Great book that gives history on hip hop and jazz. The book includes around 50 poems that are performed by a variety of diverse artists and musicians. The art style depends on the poem that is being told which is a unique feature of the story.

“I'm gonna take a piece of sunshine and paint it all over my sky.“

I think this would just be a fun, cool thing to have access to in the classroom. There could totally be something in there too that the class as a whole has a hook onto and can be played when cleaning up or transitioning as well.

A collection of poems by famous people. They speak on anything you can imagine! It is a really cool concept, it comes with a CD because most of the poems have beats that go with them.
