Tales of the City | Armistead Maupin
post image

#reccommendsday and #throwbackthursdays. If you've never read any of Armistead Maupin's books this is where to start. they provide a fun view of San Francisco as it used to be. Photo credit the Guardian

Kat_Reads I read tales of the city last year and loved it! 7y
LauraBeth I can remember devouring that series in the mid-90s and loving it 😀 7y
Dragon Thanks @Kat_Reads @LauraBeth there was also a tv series on PBS I think. A mini series- I've been thinking of doing a reread as it's been awhile 🐉 7y

#reccommendsday My former roommates are doing a Christmas book swap. Debating between these two for my political junkie friend. On one hand I know he loves JFK a lot but on the other I figure he's read a bio of him before. This Town is also a fun, kind of soapy look at DC but is also really insightful about the political culture & process.

BookishMarginalia I vote for This Town, based on your blurb. 7y

The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls
post image
Pickpick

#reccommendsday this book was a survival story. How Jeannette Walls survived a very difficult childhood to become a professional is fascinating. I've passed my copy of Glass Castle along but Half Broke Horses is on my tbr

Mindyrecycles Loved Glass Castle; Half Broke Horses was just okay. 8y
Dragon Thanks @Mindyrecycles I won't move it up my tbr list 8y
Abby2 Loved half broke horses. It's very different 8y
Dragon Thanks @Abby2 I'll have to keep an open mind 😀 8y

March: Book One | Andrew Aydin, Nate Powell, John Lewis
post image

Sharing this post from @theshrinkette Great idea to put forth some diverse books in the world to push back the trolls! I'm recommending the amazing March books about the truly heroic John Lewis and his fellow non-violent activists who risked everything for change. #IStandForDiversity #WeNeedDiverseBooks #reccommendsday
