I can‘t believe I didn‘t post about this phenomenal book last year when I first read it. Thi Bui‘s graphic memoir THE BEST WE COULD made the shortlist for the #ReadingWomenAward for #nonfiction and was recently nominated for the Book Critics Circle Award for autobiography.

In her Q&A with us on @thereadingwomen, Thi Bui talks about her writing process and the importance of reading and listening to refugees‘ stories.

DannyOlda My colleague just told me that she picked this up from the library and loved it. Maybe a sign I need to check it out too 6y

New on the blog, a Q&A with Thi Bui, author and illustrator of THE BEST WE COULD DO. We absolutely loved this graphic memoir and the illustrations make us all 😍. How could we not shortlist it for the nonfiction #ReadingWomenAward this year?

“It‘s hard to know what else to say about a book that has already received such high praise. If you haven‘t read Roxane Gay, you should. And HUNGER is a good place to start.”

Have you read the #ReadingWomenAward 2017 nonfiction winner HUNGER yet? What did you think?

P.S. you can order your own award stickers on our website.

bobregina I‘m loving your podcast! 😍👩🏻‍💻 6y

mommyincolortv Looks like I have to add one more book to my holiday reads... thanks folks! 6y
MyReviewofBooks I read it and didn‘t enjoy it at all. The vignettes of her life were brutal and honest but never uplifting. Maybe they aren‘t required to be but in other books I have read about people‘s strife always had a glimmer of something you could take away with you... 6y
thereadingwomen @Hooked_on_books It really is. 🙌 6y
well.read.panda Very tough book, but I'm so glad I read it. We need to hear from more women like Gay. I try to include lots of "fat acceptance"/"body positivity" in my media intake, but people like Gay, who are what the fat community sometimes calls "super fats" (no offense intended - that is just a term used for larger people) are too often excluded from even those areas. 6y
