Not my usual genre, but I thought I'd get out of my comfort zone. Not just a gaming story, it visits the culture of gaming with friends online, moving to a new timezone/school and romance. It would be a good addition to my #rainbowlibrary

Early and rare warm evening, great for finishing this book on the porch. I loved this book, but lost some patience with abrupt scene changes. It's a great middle grade read that touches on mental illness (without the drama of suicide). It's rare to see budding romances at this level, but some kids crave that. 🏝 🇻🇬 #LGBTQ 🌈 #rainbowlibrary 🏳️‍🌈 #kidsneedtoseethemselves #bannedbook 🚫

mandarchy @TheBookHippie not yet. I am not aware of it. Is it the same author? I just down loaded a Kelly Barnhill book. I'm trying to put off adult fiction until school gets out. So I'm on a middle grade kick. 🙃 I'll go see if I can find Felix. 2y

mandarchy @TheBookHippie I'm really happy they made Hurricane Child MG. We need more rainbow reads, one- so kids can see themselves and two- to normalize lgbtq identity. I'm glad publishers are diversifying, the book banning will hopeful drive sales. I feel bad for kids living in communities that squash their being, hopefully they find these books on their own. 2y

🌀I received 2 copies of the physical book and yet I'm reading a Kindle version from the library.
🌀it's a 4 of 5 star book.
🌀I highlight using my Kindle, sometimes I use a notebook. If I own the book and plan to keep it, I'll take notes and underline, but I don't care for highlighter pens in my books. I love post-its.

mandarchy I stopped by my favorite little free library and this was the only good book, it was spare. I took it to read and then of course didn't start it. 🙃 Just added it to my kindle so now I have 21 days. I need some middlegrade lit right now. 2y

Great book for talking about experiencing bullies. This book talks about finding strength in loved ones. It supports #LGBTQ families, features Asian characters and strong female characters. Beautifully illustrated. #readforperspective #rainbowlibrary

RebL I figured as much. Even so, “looking up” at her puts her in a power position, the way kids look up to adults. So… perspectival in multiple ways. 2y

I finished this just now and it was so refreshing. I rarely read YA since our 6th graders moved to the middle school. I sent their books to their library.

I got sucked into the romance, but the tension and worry about knowing the other shoe was about to drop was prevalent. When it did, the author handled it with lived experience, authentic non-examples and much needed relief.

LibrarianRyan Ello @mandarchy. @reggie is correct. Monthly I host #cover love looking at many of the new books the next month. I dip flop every other month between MG (which also cover PBS) and YA. I also post a lot of GN and PB as I review them for publishers. Plus I love helping people find kids books for themselves or their kids. So if you need anything just tag. 3y
