Little Boy Lost | Marghanita Laski

#LostinFrance

First sentence: “It was on Christmas Day, 1943, that Hilary Wainwright learnt that his little son was lost.”

Wainwright, a poet and intellectual, sets out on a journey through post-WWII France to search for a child lost five years before. I haven‘t read this recent addition to my #PersephoneBooks collection yet but it is blurbed as “page-turning”, “gripping”, “powerful”, and “emotional”. That‘s good enough for me!

catebutler I have this one to read too. Even though it‘s been lingering on my shelf for far too long!! 5y
BarbaraBB This sounds 💔 5y
LeahBergen @catebutler My Persephone unread stack is shameful. 😆 5y

LeahBergen @BarbaraBB It does, doesn‘t it? And yet reviewers and blurbs say it it is compulsively readable. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Shameful but beautiful stack 😁 Love these Persephone and NYRB covers! 5y
BarbaraBB @LeahBergen that settles it then. Stacked. Sigh😂 5y
Suet624 Sounds great! 5y
Reviewsbylola I may possibly own this. #persephoneproblems 😆 5y
LeahBergen @Reviewsbylola I‘m going to have to adopt that hashtag 😆 5y
elkeOriginal So do you mix in the illustrated covers in your collection? I am so torn between these & the traditional grey when there is a choice! 5y
LeahBergen @elkeo_TheBookDragon My first Persephone Book was one of these Classics with the illustrated covers (Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day) and was found in a local indie bookshop. I fell in love with them (obvs! 😆) and started ordering the dove grey editions. I guess they decided to rerelease the most popular books with these attractive covers to bookstores to draw in new readers. It certainly worked! So many people on blogs and reviews 👇🏻 5y
LeahBergen say that Miss Pettigrew was their introduction to the company. I bought a few more of the illustrated covers at the same bookshop and then found a couple more at sales .... and well, now I like both of them. 😆😆 5y
elkeOriginal @LeahBergen I feel better about my few illustrated covers now 💕 and while Miss Pettigrew was not my first purchase, it was my first read. She is the perfect gateway drug to the world of Persephones 😁 5y
LeahBergen @elkeo_TheBookDragon She certainly is! My first Persephone read was Miss Buncle‘s Book (another good gateway drug 😆). 5y
