July 2025 Book #5

This was a gift from a friend of mine, because this is one of her favorite authors in paranormal romance. I think this is my first novel by this author. It was good but it didn‘t impress me. My friend hasn‘t read it yet she thought it was good start because was a stand alone but I clarified her that it is part of a trilogy. But I like the “six sense” or ability to experience premonitions through her dreams⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) Those dreams are not pleasant because they anre attached to a traumatic experience. There is romance which I would prefer this main character could be more assertive but let see what happens in second novel. Something happened that someone in the group is not who they seem to be. It was a little predictable at some point. Stella will have dreams connecting who that person is. Again, the motive why this person behaved in that way was⬇️ 4d
Gissy (Cont) unrealistic to me🤷🏽‍♀️But I‘m intrigued to see what is going to happen in book 2. This author has been recommended to me by different persons. Maybe this series was not the best to start with but is the shortest series I think. 3.5⭐️ 4d

“Shades and shadows slithered over and around her, trailing wisps of damp air, sticky-sweet honeysuckle, and the acrid smell of rotting leaves.”

Kids from a neighborhood play a game of Hide and Seek and break the rules therefore allowing this malevolent god of Hide and Seek to take them to this shadowy upside down version of their world where it tortures them with with their deepest fears. Some of these kids had fears that were so sad. It‘s reminiscent of those kids on bikes novels from the 90s and 80s with the power of friendship. It‘s middle grade and a pick!

TrishB I have that genre in my mind now….kids on bikes…. 3mo
Reggie @TrishB It, Stand by Me, A Boys Life, you have a favorite kids on bikes book? 3mo

Sleepless | Thomas Fahy

After a more or less sleepless night (don‘t know why… Am I too excited for stuff happening right now?) I came across this book. Curious about it. Kinda tired but at the same time not. 🫣 Let‘s see how today goes… Might take a nap later or try going to bed early… #sleepless #thursday #have a good day #bookfind #bychance #wanttoread #teamnosleep #couldnotsleep #anybodyelsecurrentlytoo? #hopethisdoesnotcontinue #agoodnightssleepisessential

I listened to this one while down with a particular bad cold. The cold happened to go perfectly with this fever dream of a novel where lived trauma becomes literal horror. Thanks #netgalley for access to this audiobook.

Nightmares are real. Secrets, violence, parental neglect & sibling rivalry unspool in a black family. Racism makes the terrible more terrifying. And dark humor keeps the reader laughing at unexpected times. 4.5 stars for this scary, funny horror novel & sibling drama. #horror #familydrama

(2025) Here's one of the better horror stories I've read in a while, about a sister and two brothers in a difficult family situation. When one brother gets into trouble with the law, they escape to a cabin in the woods where family history, present reality, and the sister's nightmares blur together. It's a suspenseful, surreal, and very smart story about family trust and family trauma, and resonates with experiences of my own extended family

Reggie Sounds good! Stacked! 8mo

(2023) It's a middle-grades supernatural thriller about a basketball player who is recovering from a serious accident while dealing with a monster from his nightmares. I'm not the target audience, but it's fun for what it is. I picked it up for its terrific cover.

Best. Opening. Paragraph. Ever. I love it! 😹

“Calla was wearing the wrong bra. This sort of confrontation called for her sports bra, the one with the six non-nonsense hooks anchoring her down and all the sex appeal of old goulash. Instead, she was in her limpest bra, the one with the missing underwire, making her right breast pop over the cup like a gopher.”

My library literally just barely put the contact paper on when I checked this out!🫶🏼
