Not a new book, hubby borrowed it from our DIL‘s collection for a vacation read. He loved it and recommended it, so how could I resist? Yet another WWII novel, a mystery that kept twisting and turning until the end. The first of a series (DIL has the next book, too) that I‘m looking forward to continuing.

I thought I still had a photo from inside Churchill‘s War Rooms in London, but this is the best I could do.

kspenmoll I have read & really enjoyed this series. 2d

The Last Hope- series finale. #serieslove2024
I am sad this series ended, but the author did a wonderful job tying everything up- and I got to learn about Coco Chanel & her liaison with a German diplomat/spy-Churchill intervened so she was not charged as a collaborator.

Andrew65 I need to get back to this series, and sad to hear it‘s coming to an end. 7mo

I read the first book in this series years ago and finally came back to it. This is a spy novel/historical mystery. I like Maggie Hope as a main character and it was fun to read a mystery set in places I‘ve been. I‘m going to try to read more of this series— sooner this time!

Itis January 1944.Hitler has lost the war, which is evident to everyone but him.Maggie is asked to assassinate a high-level German scientist at a conference in Spain. What follows is a game of cat & mouse, involving double crosses & betrayals ,with Maggie totally unsure of who she can trust.Coco Chanel,as a Nazi collaborator, plays a pivotal role, which adds to the intrigue.Be sure to read the author‘s”Historical Notes.”So sad this is the series end.

I have loved this series, some installments more than others, and I was both happy and sad when I read that this was to be “The Last Hope”. I loved that Maggie was back in Europe and fighting against the Nazis like in older books. I don‘t feel that it wrapped up the story sufficiently for me so I do hope there will be a future book. It would be a disservice if not. Good installment but not the best. 🌟🌟🌟💫

kspenmoll In her “Historical Notes”, the author imagines that Maggie & friends celebrate V.E.Day at Buckingham Palace. So let‘s hope the author has at least another book in mind! 11mo
candc320 @kspenmoll that would be great! I‘d love another installment! 11mo

The finale (I think) of a series I‘ve been reading a while. Some books better than others. They got less interesting and more annoying as the series progressed. But I‘m happy to report that it ended on a high note. I think the author listened to some of the critiques of the other books. This one was less preachy and had a pretty solid story line. I don‘t know if it was sufficiently wrapped up but at least I was not irritated the entire book.

Great end to a great series. As a reader of historical mystery fiction, I am sad to see it end. Maggie is off to Spain for two reasons. First, Coco Chanel wants her to take a personal letter back to Churchill. Second, to find out if Germany has a bomb.

Maggie Hope is imprisoned on a remote Scottish island with other specially trained British agents who know too much. Then people start dying. Sounds fascinating and the setting is indeed fabulous, but this book was a dud for me. MacNeal basically announces at the start that she‘s going to rip off Ten Little Indians then proceeds to do so, with an uninspired ending. This is my 2nd try with this author and she‘s not for me.
