My earliest #ImpulseRead. I grabbed it at the local library based on her name; then, I was hooked. In the days of the dreaded book reports, I asked my 5th grade teacher if I could read the “Pippi“ books for my reports. Her answer: “If it's not on the list, you can't read it.“ I have never forgotten those exact words because I swore if I ever became a teacher, I would never say that to a student.
ChaoticMissAdventures What a terrible thing to say to students! I know that some chose books they have read many times so they know the students read it, but it seems a great way to discourage reading in children. 2y

IndoorDame Yay! Pippi! I think I heard that from teachers so much I stopped asking 😖 2y

Bklover That‘s an awful thing to say! There were some good ones though- my second grade teacher read us Gulliver‘s Travels and my fourth grade teacher had us read and perform Julius Caesar. Both encouraged me to read anything and everything. For JC she read it out loud to us and explained every sentence. (Plus- we got to wear togas!) By high school though, the tide had turned and we were given a list and were told to stick to it!! 2y
TheLudicReader No wonder kids get turned off from reading…geesh. 2y

dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures It deflated me, that's for sure. I know she was trying to get us to read more challenging books, but still! 2y
dabbe @ravenlee Hope you're mad at my teacher and not me! 🤩🤣🤗 2y
dabbe @IndoorDame Isn't that a shame? And it was for SSR! I was thrilled if my reluctant freshmen readers read a magazine! At least they were reading! 2y
dabbe @Bklover Oh yes, the high school reading list. We did have to stick to that, but I always had SSR where kids could read whatever they wanted during that time. I called it the “Miss-Dilgaard Rule!“ 🤣🤗😍 2y
dabbe @TheLudicReader Exactly. That's why you're a superstar teacher! #loveryourbookshelves 🤩🤗😍 2y

IndoorDame Such a shame! At least we have the awesome teachers like you in the system to balance it out a bit 🤗 2y
dabbe @IndoorDame And you! 🤩🤗😍 2y
Aimeesue I re-read Pippi recently, and it was a lot of fun. When I was done with it, I put it in our Little Free Library. The next day I had second thoughts, and decided I really did want to keep it, but when I went out to get it, it had already found a new home. Lucky, lucky child, I hope they love it. ❤️ 2y
dabbe @Aimeesue Okay, that just gave me goosebumps. Sooooooo happy for that kid! And yay to you for putting it in the Little Library. I want my husband to build us one of those! 🩵🖤💙 2y
rwmg One of my primary school teachers tried to discourage me from reading Enid Blyton. Fortunately it was too late to discourage me from reading. I made sure to bring other books for the free reading periods in school but I still read Enid Blyton. 2y
Eggs I read Pippi so many times, the covers fell off. Excellent choice 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 2y
