Hug This Book! | Barney Saltzberg

Picture books (I've missed thee!) about books create a certain kind of joy. That being said, Please Don't Read This Book is more a list of activities, would be best enjoyed by a guardian instructing a small child on what 'not' to do. 😉 Book's Big Adventure is sentimental with resources in the back for new homes for books, always a good. Hug This Book is my fave, art feels 60s, even if publication was 2016. Colour palette is vivid and cheerful.

A Walk in the Words | Hudson Talbott

Nominated for the 2024 #WCCPBA, A Walk in the Words carries an important message. I'm always open with my students about my learning disability and how it's not okay to shame people who need more time. The illustrations support the message in this story so well, but of course, I'm partial to Godzilla.

Hudson struggles to read while his peers seem to have no trouble. #CharactersReading

This would be a good book for kids who are slow reading or who may have a reading learning disability to help them feel less alone and foster some hope.

Madeline Finn and the Library Dog is a cute RF book about a girl overcoming her fear of reading. In this book, Madeline Finn doesn't like to read especially not out loud. She's let down after never getting a star, but instead, stickers that just say keep trying. Madeline goes to the library when the librarian has her read to a dog named Bonnie! Madeline loved reading to Bonnie, especially since she wasn't afraid to make a mistake in front of her!

tclivio Madeline overcame a lot when reading with Bonnie, and finally went on to earn a star in school! This book would be a great book to read with your students as a read aloud. With the following lesson plan https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Madeline-Finn-and-the-Library-Dog-Re..., you can have students create their own pet that they are able to practice reading with. 3y
tclivio This lesson goes along with UDL 9.1 (promote expectations and beliefs that optimize motivation), since the students will be reading to the pet knowing that it is okay to make mistakes and that their pet knows that they are trying their best! It also goes along with EL 3 (encourage self-talk (positive thinking)). #ucflae3414sp21 3y
