The Investigation | Jung-myung Lee

Pickpick

There is so much you can say about this one & my thoughts are so scattered…it‘s excellent. I‘ll start there. Set in a prison in 1945, this is the story of a prisoner (also a poet) & a guard (also a censor). The guard is murdered & what follows is a murder mystery but it‘s more than that. This fictionalized account of the life of one of Korea‘s foremost poets is about words, poetry, books, freedom, war, hope, truth, guilt, & much more. Very good.

Bailedbailed

I rarely bail, but 24% in and I simply cannot continue. This book was not written for me. It has some great reviews, but 🤷🏼

EadieB @tove_reads Oh no another bad one! 4mo

Yes, it‘s time to start yet another new series 😍 I really hope it‘s a good one!

robinb It was a 4⭐️ for me with a couple of caveats. But willing to try the second one. 👍😊 5mo
Andrew65 I can get the first 4 of these through my Prime membership, and also have a copy of the fifth. Unless something changes may need to get sixth and last one through Audible. (edited) 5mo
EadieB I‘ve had this book on my shelf for a while and just saw it the other day. 5mo

I've got about a dozen of these books from the series but haven't read them as yet.

She supposed few women ever set foot here, least of all women dressed as police officers.
Rebeiro led her into the dormitory wing.

They passed an open doorway. Turning her head, she saw young men engaged in the time-honoured biblical pursuit of ping-pong, hopping around in their robes and thrashing at a white ball with wooden racquets.

I've got a long list of books I've started and should be finishing, but instead I've picked this new one up from the library...

Corpse Candle | Paul Doherty

Day 3 word for #OminousOctober is Candles

Corpse Candle - lights resembling candles which were said to appear on the old 'corpse roads' (old burial routes in England) & were harbingers of impending death.

This book is from the Hugh Corbett series by Paul Doherty set in the 14th century. It's a brilliant series if you like historical mysteries.

Mehso-so

Set around Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee a member of the aristocracy's body is fished out of the Thames leading Blackstone to investigate his murder. There is a secret plot afoot. The plot was easily identifiable to me quite early on but it appears not so evident to the police inspector. There appeared to be several similarities with other books I have read in this genre and with lots of words incorrectly written or missing the story fell flat.
