The Well | Jake Wyatt

A dark and beautiful fable, this graphic novel follows the orphaned daughter of witches whose debt to a magical well requires she fulfill three of the wishes cast into its depths. Recommended for fans of K O‘Neill!

I read these two pretty close together so I thought this was hilarious. 💀 🌅 The tagged book was my “book that is a graphic novel / comic / memoir” for #TBRTarot It‘s a very cute book about a skeleton that desperately wants to join the town band. Unfortunately, she terrifies the town every time she tries to show off her music chops until she doesn‘t. And the puns are top tier.👌

And for our Victoria Day reading we have ALL OUR ORDINARY STORIES, Teresa Wong‘s deeply affecting comic about her life with her parents, and their lives before she knew them. It‘s yet another Canada Reads Longlist title that‘d be a great shortlist contender in a year or two. I really feel like the 2025 panelists chose the weakest books to defend when they had such bounty.

This week‘s library haul, straight from the bench under the overhang while I wait for the unscheduled rain to pass so I can cycle home. I got one more from the Canada Reads Longlist, an Alexis Hall romance, Tatsuya Endo‘s early short comics, and the latest volume of YONA OF THE DAWN, which was a lucky shelf find. Just last night, I thought I should check to see if they‘d ordered it yet and put in my request. Now I don‘t have to.

I am wanting to do a re-read of some of the Marvel Star Wars comics soon. I am familiar with Sana, but I only remember bits and pieces of her character, but this is a solid comic even without any history. A dysfunctional family heist/rescue mission with lots of twists and improvisation. Good art and entertaining characters.

Another graphic novel I spotted at the library and picked up on impulse. This has pretty art, fun character designs, and a moody plot concept. The reading order is unpleasant, changing order whenever the artist wanted and often making little logical sense. The story feels a little like a square peg being pushed into a round hole, where both the world and story don‘t always want to follow their own rules. #Comics

michellelav @tpixie it seems I picked the wrong book since the author should be Kenneth Grahame 😅 3mo
