GF Alert! Two bites into this coffee cake and my daughter said, “You definitely need to make this again.”

Glad to be finding alternatives that work!

Bookzombie Looks delicious! 6mo
Tamra @Bookzombie none of my family knew it was GF until I told them. 😊 6mo

Overall it was an okay read, but it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. This is not a guide on healthy eating as such but on avoiding fad diets, misleading headlines, & eating sensibly. Newcomers to the subject may find this a helpful 'beginner's read' or introduction to the subject of the Western view of food but it was written in 2015 so some of it will probably now be out of date. 2⭐

OutsmartYourShelf (Obviously there is a difference between those with a food allergy or something like Coeliac disease or Non-Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity, & people who just cut out certain food groups due to media headlines. If you have CD, NCGS, or food allergies, then it is vital to eat the right diet & avoid food triggers which the author states.)

We‘ve got new people at the library which obviously means that an afternoon tea is in order! The invite email asked for us to bring something vegan friendly - so I‘ve adapted my yum yum ball recipe - by using vegan/gluten free biscuits and condensed coconut milk instead of condensed milk. I didn‘t know condensed coconut milk was thing!

Darklunarose This is good stuff! It‘s a pantry staple here. 2y
ravenlee Ooh, sounds lovely! 2y
Dragon Sounds yummy! 💚🐉 2y

CarolynM Hope your efforts were appreciated 💕 2y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Darklunarose, what kind of recipes do you use it in? 2y
Darklunarose @thegirlwiththelibrarybag anything you would use condensed milk in:) but I‘m obsessed with it in iced coffee. 2y

Celiac Disease (Updated 4th Edition): A Hidden Epidemic | Peter H.R. Green, M.D., Rory Jones
Pickpick

This is the first book I bought after being diagnosed with celiac. This latest edition was updated in 2020. I found it helpful in understanding more about the disease & what to do now. Also lists a helpful index if gluten free food sources & info on whether ingredients are gluten free.

My 2nd trip to the library since restrictions eased & the library bookstore finally opened again. I went to pick up my hold on Second First Impressions & Little Secrets & 2 veg/vegan cookbooks East & Plants Only Kitchen came home with me.

From the bookstore $3 got me like-new Dead Wake & (the tagged & cleverly-titled) vegetarian/GF cookbook which looks amazing. I‘d say it‘s a pretty good #librarybookhaul & the book chickens were impressed!📚🐔🐔

Am I the only one turned off by typewriter font?

ImperfectCJ Nope, you are not alone in not feeling typewriter font. That's one I think can be used sparingly with good effect, but too much is...too much. 3y
Darklunarose Nope. I must admit o don‘t like that font at all. 3y

Weekend breakfasts are the best ☺️. I read cookbooks like regular books but this 1 has been lingering on my TBR stack for a long time! I've been doing this long enough that I can modify pretty much any recipe so I guess this wasn't a priority. Yesterday I was rearranging my TBR cart & I plucked this one off and committed to reading it. I'm so glad I did, this Denver brunch break was delicious! Looking forward to trying more recipes from this 1!

Seriously, they should pay ME for making recipes. Every time I tell another thousand people how good these gluten-free cookies (and other recipes) are. Yummity yum yum! Left to Right: chocolate crinkles, sugar, gingersnaps, pecan bars.

DGRachel Ooh, I love a good sugar cookie! 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @DGRachel Thanks—These are so good. How are you feeling? 4y
DGRachel Like death warmed over, but it will pass. I‘m starting to feel hungry, which is a good sign. I was hardly able to eat anything all day because of the nausea. I think the Yaupon peppermint tea helped. I think I‘m going to try to read a little before bed. Thanks for asking! 4y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @DGRachel Glad to hear. At least you can read again. Take the eating part slowly ... hopefully it‘ll improve soon! 4y

I am a huge fan of carbs. I moved out of home at 18 so I could eat pancakes whenever I wanted and I do. My favourite pizza is a margarita. I love the drink too. I always be good and have white rice when I eat Chinese or Thai food. I always put on weight in France because of all the yummy bread. I am just like my paternal grandmother.
