Pink Is for Boys | Robb Pearlman

4 ⭐This book is simple but perfect. It gives each color and that it is for boys and girls, or for girls and boys. It‘s also for something you see in society. Things like brown is for teddy bears and green is for glass. This book makes sure to say that all colors are for everyone, and that pink is not just a girl‘s color and blues is not just a boys colors. Colors are for everyone. An important lesson for the modern US society.

I wrote a reflection for my Library about bringing a bear called JK Growling to a Pride event.

https://www.amesfreelibrary.org/blog/youth-services-kids/book-recommendations-ki...

I‘ve been contending with her name being what it is for a *while.*

Graywacke Great article. Kudos. 2y
BethM Love this! 2y
AFrostCauseReads Loved the article! I constantly find myself struggling with loving art that comes from a problematic source. In this case, since JK Growling is an offshoot of the namesake, it might help to think of it as a new generation improving over the last. The original is a TERF, but JK Growling accepts and supports all! 2y
LiteraryinLawrence Great article! 💗 2y

I‘m finding the “how to parent without exacerbating gender stereotypes” parts of this book good, but lots of the rest of it is crap. And it‘s not at all trans-inclusive.
I am very good at math! I love math. And spreadsheets. And engineering.
Let‘s bet Dr Spears Brown. I‘ll take all your money!

Oryx I loved maths in school - the satisfaction of solving a problem and knowing it was right - lovely! Although I've forgotten everything I ever knew about differentiating and cos and sins and tans... 3y
eraderneely @Oryx yes! The knowing that it was right, the lack of ambiguity, is what I love. 3y
TrishB My daughter is very proud to call herself a woman in STEM 😁 or a steminist! 3y

BookNAround Huh. I don‘t like math but entirely chalking it up to nurture rather than nature is pretty reductive and false, IMO. Also, my daughter (getting a Masters in Architecture) called the other day to tell me she got a 95 on her engineering midterm. So she not only likes math, she‘s damn good at it too. 3y
Caroline2 @TrishB a steminist!!! I love that! 😀 2y
TrishB @Caroline2 she has a badge with it on 😁 2y
rockpools It‘s a good job she doesn‘t know us. Might lose a fair bit of money there! Hello Emily 😊 2y
kaysworld1 @eraderneely Hi hun I was just checking you got your birthday card alright xx 2y
eraderneely @kaysworld1 probably! My husband has been squirreling away all my cards and things and not letting me open anything yet. I‘ll be sure to post once I do though! 2y

In society today, people have so many views on what is appropriate for boys and girls based on their stereotypes and I think we need to start breaking down those judgements. In my classroom I want all of my students to love what the like without having to hide things. This is a great book to bring students together and support one and another,

We hosted our first Drag Queen Story Hour today! We had a few people show up who lived close, bc obviously lots of people are staying home, but it was still a blast! You Loves You, Red, and the tagged book (which was my fav and based on a real person) were all fantastic!

Pink Is for Boys | Robb Pearlman

Review: Pink Is for Boys by Robb Pearlman, 2018, is a beautiful picturebook all about colors. Specifically it's about how colors don't have a gender, and that they are for everyone, even pink!
Blurb: This book is a simple story made for a younger crowd, but that tells a powerful message nonetheless. Teaching children that certain colors aren't for certain people is important.
Quote: “And all the colors are for EVERYONE. Girls and boys.“
