A biography of Wallis Simpson.

A mixture of very interesting facts (I had no idea she was still married to Mr Simpson at the time of the abdication, I always had the impression he was long gone) and wild speculation (she was flat-chested and a graphologist said her handwriting was masculine so she could have been a man with a hormonal disorder). Read with a large dose of salt handy.

Pick for the facts, so-so for the speculation.

Bailedbailed

I can‘t even. First the author went on and on about what seemed like pure speculation about some medical matters. I rolled my eyes and skimmed. But then she said the reason Wallis was abused by her first husband was because she brought it on herself and I had to bail. Next please!

DGRachel I‘m often astounded at the harmful statements some women make about other women. Isn‘t it hard enough to be a woman in our misogynistic patriarchy? 1y

I grew up in Baltimore, and so did Wallis Simpson. Later in life, I discovered that the romantic, true story of a King who relinquished his throne for a “common woman” had a dark side. However, I do still find her fascinating! Day 14 #curiouscovers #woman

“Stamped” should be required reading. Now, for a trip across the pond for some familial drama. #thecrownincrisis #alexanderlarman #england #britishroyalfamily #abdication #edwardviii #wallissimpson

I have been fascinated with the abdication of King Edward VIII and his romance with Wallis Simpson for a while now, and recently stumbled across his memoir. This was a slow read for me, because he goes into such great detail and introduces everyone! 😂

Wallis doesn‘t really make an appearance until about 3/4 of the way through, as a heads up.

Good. Shows a different side to this woman and her life. Even though this story has been told in various ways this brings a different perspective and adds to the well known story.

My best friend and I are making our way through a Crown-inspired reading list this year, kicking off with 17 Carnations. I am equal parts fascinated and horrified by David and Wallis, and so far
Morton's book is keeping both of those feelings alive and well! #NumberInTitle #JumpIntoJanuary #CurrentlyReading #RoyalRead
@Eggs

Eggs Ooo I‘m anxious to read all your crown-inspired reviews!!! There are photos of these 2 consorting with Hitler-this should be great reading! 3y
