This was an enjoyable escape.

An enjoyable short read. I was expecting a little more in regards to the structure of the Soviet Union‘s meteorological network and the work they did. It was less about that and more focused on the life in prison and brutality the meteorologist, Alexey Feodosievich, had to endure as a review on the horrors of the Great Terror. Paragraphs often hop in time which confused at times, but an overall good read for those interested.
"You're just looking for someone to save you. Save yourself."
I feel like I read this before, but maybe it‘s just true to life of families in SoAz as in SoCal. In any event, this is certainly a book that can encourage empathy in young readers who may not be familiar with the stories of people living on the border. I appreciate the care each character is given. Deserving of the awards it received.
Almost 170p in and I‘m giving up. My expectations where high after reading a review which said it was for lovers of “The Eight Life” and I loved that after the first paragraph and knew I was reading a new favorite novel by the first page.
This book almost pulled me in at page 100, but then it lost me again. I just don‘t have it in me to force read 300p pages by Monday when it‘s due back at the library.
Maybe I‘ll get back to it someday.
I‘m a hopeless romantic, and this story was adorable! I fell in love with the MCs. Yes, it‘s instalove, but it‘s a little bit more! This is a love letter to the universe, to science. I enjoy Nicola Yoon‘s unique style. It‘s easy to read, but still packed with emotion and she doesn‘t shy away from controversial topics. Yoon‘s ability to weave these complex ideas into her stories is so well-done and relatable. I‘m going to watch the movie now! 🥰
This was a #bookspin read and although I have a history degree with an emphasis on Russian history this story fell flat for me. Perhaps a bit was lost in translation. What is sad is this has all the elements to be a great read. Unfortunately, I just couldn‘t engage with this one. #bookspin #readingchallenge2022
