The Federalist Papers: Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Jay | Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Jay, Ian Shapiro

Pickpick

Read & listened to this simultaneously because I knew it was gonna take some effort. (Doing the same thing with the Anti-federalists too 😅.)

In America, there has always been this push & pull about what the Founders intended. Now, I can‘t say this book makes it obvious, partly because I believe Hamilton was insincere, but I feel most people can walk away from this wondering why in the hell the Supreme Court has such a problem understanding.

TheBookHippie The Supreme Court is corrupt 😵‍💫 1mo
BC_Dittemore @TheBookHippie very much so. Which is a shame to say because we might possibly have some of the Court‘s best justices ever in Sotomayor, Kagan, & KBJ. 1mo

I just opened some book mail to discover this atrocity. 😭 I hope it comes off.

marleed Ohh that‘s bad😟 4mo
Ruthiella Yikes! It‘s huge. Using a blow dryer to loosen the stickum often works for me. 4mo
Deblovestoread That is just wrong. Shame on them. 4mo

dabbe They owe you a virgin book! 😱 4mo
TheBookgeekFrau 😲🤯🤬 And to add insult to injury, it's upside down! 4mo
bookandbedandtea @marleed @Ruthiella @Deblovestoread @nanuska_153 @dabbe Fortunately, it came off pretty easily and didn't damage the cover. But sheesh! 4mo
bookandbedandtea @TheBookgeekFrau Right?! As if it isn't horrifying enough to slap an enormous sticker smack in the middle of the cover they also had to put it upside down?? 🤦‍♀️ It came off pretty easily, though, so all is well. 4mo
TheBookgeekFrau @bookandbedandtea Oh good! Because that was a pretty bad case of book abuse. 4mo
nanuska_153 I actually just noticed it's the federalist papers, that's such an interesting read (I love Constitutional Law). Are you going to listen to Hamilton while reading it? 😂 (Also love musicals xD) 4mo
bookandbedandtea @nanuska_153 I can‘t say I had thought of that but I‘m thinking it now! 👀🎼 4mo

Pickpick

Great collection of classic American documents, speeches, poems, etc. George Washington‘s speeches had a lot of big words that didn‘t say a whole lot. I also didn‘t know that it used to be first choice was made President and second choice was made Vice President. Teddy Roosevelt liked long, run-on sentences. The pledge of allegiance didn‘t originally have “under god” in it! President Eisenhower insisted it be added by Congress in 1954.

In America, the law is king. ⚖️👩🏻‍⚖️

CatLass007 The United States Constitution is a beautiful, simply written document that people love to twist to suit their own needs 6mo
sdbruening This isn‘t the Constitution. It‘s Thomas Paine‘s Common Sense. 6mo

“While eating is the custom of Europe” 🤪 Sassy, Thomas Paine, in Common Sense.

I worked for the government for 35+ years at three different organizations. I‘ll come back to that later. As a #longtimefed I have a lot of thoughts about…all this. For a host of reasons I‘m reluctant to share much on “public” media for now, but I consider Litsy MY “safe space.”

I don‘t want to hurt anyone‘s feelings or make anyone uncomfortable, and I don‘t expect to change anyone‘s mind. If you want to ignore these posts, you can mute the tag.

Aims42 I would LOVE to hear/read your thoughts on these current events! Bring it on 🩷👍 7mo
Tamra 👏🏾 My family has a long history of fed & state government service. Husband and I have made careers in state service. People don‘t seem to understand how society benefits. 7mo

ImperfectCJ I suspect there aren't many people not affected by the cuts, even if they aren't federal employees/contractors. My dad was career military and has been a federal contractor since his military retirement. My spouse is in the biosciences, which rely on federal grants to fund drug discovery and not only further the development of life-saving medications but make the US THE place for scientists. The changes will have profound ripple effects. 7mo
Susanita @ImperfectCJ @Tamra Absolutely. I‘ll get into this in my own way, but there are so many effects of these changes that will reverberate for a long time. 7mo
The_Penniless_Author Another long-time fed here who would love to hear what you have to say. Hope you're hanging in there and weathering the storm as best you can. 7mo
Susanita @The_Penniless_Author Thankfully, I retired a few years ago. Still, I can‘t help but notice what‘s happening with a bit of alarm. I hope you‘re hanging in there too! 7mo
Suet624 Always happy to hear your thoughts. I was thinking this morning that our economy is so fragile and there are so many interconnecting parts to it. What they are doing right now to the economy alone is so dangerous. And of course there are so many other things to protest as well - health and safety and ... on and on and on. 7mo

The_Penniless_Author Glad to hear you got out in time. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone is going to come out of this unscathed. I wish more people could understand just what's coming down the pike. Anyway, solidarity and best wishes to you and your loved ones. 7mo
Amiable Thank you so much for sharing your experience and thoughts about the hellscape we are in. 🤬 6mo
