Recent acquisitions:

📖 Churchill & Orwell: The Fight for Freedom by Thomas E. Ricks (this is a rare case of buying the book after having read it. ★★★★★)
📖 The English Nation: The Great Myth by Edwin Jones
📖 Clem Attlee: Labour's Great Reformer by Francis Beckett

2.5/5
Some interesting info, but I was quite put off by her way of looking at their life through our modern prism, and then explaining how it was at the time, these parts reading as if it was written for middle schoolers.
Also, what I see as a marketing ploy to sale more books by focusing only on the female siblings didn't work for me. Churchill's son is barely mentioned, and it would have been great to see the whole dynamic between the siblings.

I thought this was a fascinating read given how different the sisters were when you take into account who their parents were, the losses they suffered and the choices each made. Truly, a book worth reading if anything Churchill interests you as it does me. #bookspin @thearomaofbooks

Not my favorite by Millard. For an escape story, it was a bit slow and plodding.

I am finding this man to be incredibly interesting now that I'm focusing on him through biography type reads. This #chunkster although a little dry in some areas was overall quite the page turner. #bookspin @thearomaofbooks

Wow! First in America we aren't taught much about this conflict so I came in with a little knowledge conflict wise...but little to nothing about Churchills involvement. This man was so daring and audacious at the same time. This reads like a fast paced thriller...not what it is a very informative #nonfiction read. Highly recommend this one. #bookspin @thearomaofbooks

MommyWantsToReadHerBook Hmmm sounds interesting and I'd never heard of Churchill's involvement, but I think it would make me too angry to read. Interesting how the people controlling the narrative get to call the other side "rebels" - and I suppose they damn well were! From the description the book sounds very pro-colonialism and Kitchener was a horrible man with the blood of countless women and children on his hsnfd 7mo

Completed both my #bookspin and #doublespin for August! Moo was a light and sweet story in both verse and prose of a family transitioning from city to country life and coming to love a stubborn cow named Zora. The Golden Hour was heavier graphic novel in that the MC is experiencing PTSD after a shooting. He anchors himself by taking photos and cautiously makes friends with kids involved in 4-H. I enjoyed them both! 🐮

This is without a doubt one of my favorite books regarding Winston Churchill. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read its faced paced, doesn't read like a textbook, and does a fantastic job of putting the reader right alongside Winston Churchill as he made his way through an impossible situation. #nonfictionread

dabbe Did you read THE SPLENDID AND THE VILE? I'm finding that one hard to push through. Stacking this one, though! 🤩🤗😍 9mo
KristiAhlers @dabbe I have not. That makes me sad though as it's on my list to read. I do find that author can be a hit and miss for me. This one though I literally inhaled in a day 9mo

This was a very engaging read. I always wondered what a woman married to Churchill would be like. This woman was so impressive and I have mad respect for who she was and how she helped Churchill. Highly recommend this read.

currentlyreadinginCO My fiance got me this and I've been letting it sit on my shelf! Thanks for pushing it up my list 12mo
KristiAhlers @thereadingreference you're welcome. I think she was a fascinating woman. I sadly didn't know much about her before reading this book. 12mo
