We went today to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in VA. We went to mainly get to see the Space Shuttle Discovery (since the last bill that passed wants to move it to TX). I did pick this book up for my daughter (the book selection for girls was disappointing). We were at one of the discovery stations about black holes. The young guy asked my daughter if she knew what a black hole was. She said yes & explained. He‘s like OMG you‘re exactly
Great book!
From my Mountain-State brother-in-spirit Chuck Yeagar's story to understanding the bigger story of what makes The Right Stuff for any pilot or astronaut, The Right Stuff inspires me to light this fuse on any journey of life!
PS--Watch the movie.
Chuck Yeagar's cameo at the bar is awesomely hilarious!
I really expected to love this book as I am a fan of the space program, but I found it to be a snoozer. There were some interesting antidotes, but, overall it felt disjointed and there was too many wives to keep straight. Loved all the photos.
Today I finished the last read-aloud session of the academic year with the tagged book. I volunteered to bring my school's book bin back to the main office next week and to pick up and return as many as three other bins from other schools. I'm in good shape, but lugging this bin a city block to my car left me a sweaty mess with an ache in my back, so I ordered a heavy duty wagon to help with the other bins. Volunteering can get expensive!
Got further in this than I have in awhile, but I still cannot engage with trad pub single POV. I'll keep testing it periodically! Sorry, perfectly nice book!
I‘m always interested in learning more about women who haven‘t gotten as much attention in the history books. One of The Six was Sally Ride and one was Judy Resnik, but the others are lesser known (at least to me). Astronauts are so interesting to me, but I have no desire to leave Earth! It was somewhat melancholy reading this after reading Challenger.
Yesterday my youngest participated in the school district‘s social studies & science fair. As soon as she saw the brochure she said she wanted to do it (so huge for a kid with lots of anxiety). She said she wanted to do her presentation on Mae Jemison. She‘s worked hard for the last few weeks. She was interviewed by teachers & high school students. One of the teachers thanked her for highlighting such an important person in history. When asked why
Looking for chapter book recommendations for an almost 10 year old girl. I want to continue to find more chapter books for my daughter with strong female characters. In this pre-handmaiden era I want her to continue to read more about strong girls/women, even better if by women. We have Enola Holmes, just finished Wild Robot series. She‘s a more advanced reader than her brothers were & loves reading. Pic of books for Easter -our bunny brings books
