It‘s day two of #bannedbooksweek2019. This book has been challenged due to #religiousthemes. What that all means I don‘t know. What I do know is this book makes me cry. #TheLovelyBones #AliceSebold #bannedbooks

So many emotions!! Sorrow, anger, love, grief, this book really puts you through the ringer.
It's where Sebold writes about grief, or the love/distance between the characters that it hits me the most.

Slightly peed off that my timer dropped out when I went for a tea break, but I should have done a screen grab - it's was the first/only time I forgot to!

Mehso-so

Finally finished this book on my break today. It was definitely not a thriller like I thought it would be for #Spookathon but I loved the simple nod to how grief moves though people and a family. Yet, there was a weird part in the end I wasn‘t fond of at all and I understand how many people complained that the story moved very slowly. So I‘m on the fence about who/when I would recommend people read it. #TheLovelyBones #AliceSebold

NeedsMoreBooks I loved this book although I agree it is slow. The whole plot and the treatment of grief is poignant. 5y
Phantasma.Maddie @NeedsMoreBooks I totally understood why it was slow and I got that part and really wasn‘t bothered about it like some people were, I just really didn‘t like the switching bodies with Ruth part. I found it distracting to the plot. Did you like it? 5y
NeedsMoreBooks I liked the book overall but the Ruth part was a bit weird. 5y

Phantasma.Maddie @NeedsMoreBooks I really think that part is what made it a so-so for me and made me feel weird about recommending it. Like ANYONE with grief I think would love this book, but then thinking their loved ones were inhabiting other bodies puts a weird spin on it. I thought Ruth‘s character overall was an odd one and I connected so much about some parts of her and others not at all. 5y
Phantasma.Maddie @NeedsMoreBooks who was your favorite character? 5y
NeedsMoreBooks @Phantasma.Maddie I liked Susie, Buckley, and Holly. Had read it when it had first released. Time for a re-read 😊 5y
