1. No. I've read it at least three times before this. 2. I loved the interactions between Bilbo and Gandalf. 3. I didn't like that Kili, File, and Thorin all die. 4. The thunderstorm rock throwing contest. 5. Riding barrels out of the Elven Kingdom. 6. I liked many things about the movies, but many things also irked me, such as why did it have to be THREE movies? #thehobbitdiscussion

1. No
2. I love when all the dwarves start showing up at Bilbo's house.
3. Not a thing
4. The most surprising part is when Bilbo jumps over Gollum.
5. The "escape" from the trolls!
6. I've watched the first two. The last one is scheduled for tonight. Overall I have been disappointed by how far he strayed from the books. I find myself repeatedly saying "That didn't happen" while we are watching.

1. I've read it many times.
2. Love the descriptions of Bag End, especially when Gandalf and the dwarves come to tea.
3. Nothing except: it's over too soon! The incongruencies between this & LOTR do get noticeable the more you read it
4. Bilbo's unexpected courage. Magic ring or no, he's got guts.
5. The Eagles 🦅
6. Seen the films. Love the dwarves & Martin Freeman. HATED the Tauriel plot line 😖The book rules!

I loved reading this with y'all! Looking forward to finishing the trilogy finally.

1. It was that long ago it may as well have been my first time!
2. The dwarf council in Bilbo's home at the beginning. Very funny & sweet.
3. Too short.
4. That they deviated so much from it for the movie.
5. The barrels from the wood-elves cellars.
6. I loved the movies, but they changed so much from the books & added unnecessary people.

1. Yes
2. Bilbo & Gollum, Bilbo & spiders, Bilbo & Smaug, packing dwarves in barrels!
3. Smaug died so quickly. Wanted more with him.
4. That Smaug died so quickly.
5. Using the ring to get away from the spiders.
6. I haven't seen any of the movies.

monkeygirlsmama You know, truth be told, I kind of felt that way too about Smaug. I get that Bilbo, by way of using the ring, managed to get inside info that nobody else was ever able to get (re: his armor). So when passed along & put to use it made defeating him not only possible but almost easy. However, it seemed that for being such an impressive character who had been successful in surviving & dominating for so long that his end came about all too quickly. (edited) 7y
Jinjer @monkeygirlsmama I feel the same way and am still bothered by it! I can't let it go. 🤔 7y

1. Hell no.
2. Riddles in the Dark/our intro to Gollum. One of my all time favorite literary characters.
3. Too many damn characters to keep track of!
4. Hard to say since I've read it so many times before!
5. Sassing Smaug.
6. I saw them once each. They were gorgeous visually. Slept through the 3rd film. I would've enjoyed them more if they deleted all the action scenes, but then they'd be like 20 min long. #TheHobbitDiscussion #lotrchapteraday

1. Yep!
2. Gollum
3. I wasn't too keen on the songs, also I hate spiders.
4. It was more of a children's book than I was expecting (not a bad thing, just surprising)
5. Escaping from Gollum (I really like Gollum!)
6. I've seen the movies. I think it was a pretty good (if too long) adaptation of the book.
