Today my heart is…guarded. On one hand, the news is horrible, and the situation in LA is yet another issue of disagreement in the household. On the other hand, I was born in California, so if they secede perhaps I could apply for birthright citizenship? #mentalhealthmonday

Kerrbearlib Perhaps! Where were you born in California, if you‘re willing to share? I used to have family in the Fresno area, but they moved back east. 5d
Susanita @Kerrbearlib My dad was in the Navy, and I was born in Monterey while he was stationed there. 5d
TheBookHippie Sending love. ♥️ 5d
ncsufoxes We lived in San Diego for 11 years. My kids grew up there. It‘s devastating to watch what‘s happening in LA. California will always be a special place to us. 5d

Years ago, I listened to a few episodes of this popular podcast, but overall, I just prefer books, so I was excited to listen to their audiobook! It‘s more about the authors than the murdery topics their podcast focuses on, so I must admit that I was a little disappointed based on my expectations… But, it‘s a quick listen, with surprising cameos, plenty of secondhand material from therapists & certainly well-performed.

Reggie I used to listen to that podcast but something about Georgia really started to turn me off. 2mo
TorieStorieS @Reggie This book is much more about them and their lives, so I would imagine then you wouldn‘t enjoy it! Though I also found myself preferring the cadence & tone of Karen‘s speech patterns. For me, it‘s just the format that made me abandon the podcast… I like the idea of podcasts more than the reality of listening to them! I have a full queue of recommendations from friends & family but I am not sure when I‘ll ever get to them! 😬 2mo
JenlovesJT47 I wasn‘t a fan of this one for some reason. 3w
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I think had I listened to it closer to when I listened to the podcast, I would have been more turned off for sure! But it was a quick listen which tends to make me look on things more fondly right after finishing! 3w

I have been reading Les Misérables since January. Taking it at a slow pace and enjoying its Reading Companion Podcast by Briana Lewis. Highly recommend to listen to it for a more in depth read. It does help with the infamous digressions ?. #lesmiserables#podcast#victorhugo#bigread#classics#frenchlit#read&listen

Changeling | Matt Wesolowski

The first half of Changeling is definitely spooky – at times, downright scary. It was silly of me to read it in the middle of the night, alone at home. I ended up having to finish it all in one sitting before I could confidently go to bed, otherwise I would‘ve been fretting over it and jumping up at every noise until dawn. I usually like Kasie West's YA fare because she writes characters whose problems feel real/regular to me. There's drama, but it's not over the top. Like most of her books, we have a MC who needs to learn to get out of her comfort zone a little, find some balance in her life, and be willing to wrestle some of her inherent prejudices. There's also some great snark and fun characters. An enjoyable read, even if it didn't really bring anything new ⬇

This volume collects the scripts from season one of the absurdly brilliant Welcome to Night Vale podcast plus behind-the-scenes introductions to each episode. This is my brand of weird and I feel no shame about that. Actually, I feel no shame or really any other emotion…I am suspended in a jar of jelly that isn‘t really jelly, just the consistency of what you know to be jelly. Send help. Or don‘t. It‘s whatever.

ChaoticMissAdventures I used to love this pod! It was so creative. The faceless old woman always gave me the creeps 😂 7mo
AshleyHoss820 @ChaoticMissAdventures I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it until I picked this up! I forgot all about Hiram, the 5-headed dragon. The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home! So skin-tinglingly weird! ☺️ 7mo

This book was just ok, not really a page turner, not really scary, not a series I will be reading. It also wasn't witchy more a murder to be solved. TheAromaofBooks Sometimes it's a relief to not like the first book in a series because you get a small pile of books off the TBR all at once! 😂 8mo
