#BDB #BDBBuddyRead

I am finally feeling up to getting back to the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The next book to read in the series is Lover Mine. Which I am going to read in May. Is anyone interested in staying on the tag list? Let me know if you would like to be added.

Urban fantasy meets supernatural romance in this series that started in 2010. It feels a bit like Twilight for grown ups, repressive gender norms & all. (Actually worse with the gender norms. According to the mc "women's liberation" still hasn't gotten to the werewolves. Yoiks.) Despite that I find myself hooked? It's a compelling story, and I want to see where it goes. Basically a coyote shifter among werewolves and lots of supernatural intrigue.

rachelsbrittain To be clear, the Twilight comparison isn't meant to be negative. It's the regressive gender norms that are the problem, and even Twilight does way better on that front 😅 17h
SpeculativeFemale I enjoyed the first few books of this series a while back, but then kind of lost track of it. I should really go back to it someday. 16h
robinb I 💚 Mercy and her crew. Between this series and Briggs‘ Kate Daniels, these are how I got started in urban fantasy. 😊 15h
5feet.of.fury @robinb Kate Daniels series is Ilona Andrews but I agree I loved it so much! 9h

1. Yes. I was going to guess 500 but decided to go ahead and count. Turns out we have 916 books currently. 😱 I don't know how that happened lol
2. I only finished like 4 books this month and they were all OK.

It took me years to get around to this book, but it was worth the wait. It‘s an intriguing premise with a memorable cast of characters. The mystery at the beginning was especially interesting. If I had to critique, I would say the first half mystery carried itself better than the second half hero vs. villain plot. Here‘s hoping Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children continue to mystify and intrigue in the second book.

I‘ll preface this by saying I loved the first 2 books in this series. That being said, I hated this book. It literally felt like pulling teeth to finish it. I tried to make a list of what I disliked, such as the slapstick no-stakes action, the robot characters, the bad dialogue, or the irritating frequent narrator asides, which took me out of the story every time. But it can all be summed up with poor writing. Not even the romances could save it.
