Today after getting my nails done I popped in to the op shop next-door to see whether I could find myself a Georgette Heyer @LeahBergen . I did not find a Heyer, but I did find these two 😍. For $2 each! #bookhaul #winning

BarbaraBB What I loved is so good!! 3mo
LeahBergen Well, those are some good finds! Let me know if you can‘t find a Heyer… I‘ll send you one! 😘 3mo
MrsMalaprop Thanks @LeahBergen I‘m sure I‘ll find one. Especially with @rissreads sending me links to book sales in our town. She‘s such a bad influence 🙄😂 3mo

MrsMalaprop @BarbaraBB That book keeps coming up & then I spotted it today. 🙏 3mo
CarolynM Keep looking out for the Heyer‘s, you are bound to find a few soon. And I agree with @BarbaraBB about What I Loved. 3mo
Rissreads I‘m on the hunt for you now Serena! It won‘t take us long! 🤣 3mo
Rissreads So what Heyer are we looking for? Which are the best @LeahBergen ? 3mo
Rissreads Which would you recommend @CarolynM ? 3mo
CoffeeK8 Venetia is good! My favorite is 3mo
LeahBergen @Rissreads Let‘s see … maybe be on the lookout for Cotillion, The Grand Sophy, Frederica, Arabella, These Old Shades (this one is Georgian era rather than Regency), or The Corinthian. Or whatever you can find! 😆😆 I‘ve actually not read Venetia yet but it seems to be a favourite of a lot of Heyer fans. Happy hunting! 3mo
CarolynM @Rissreads I‘ve only read a couple of the romances so I‘m not much help with those. The mysteries will be harder to find but, for what it‘s worth, No Wind of Blame and Behold Here‘s Poison are my favourites.🙂 3mo
LeahBergen @CarolynM I‘ll make a note of these titles! 👍 3mo

Pickpick

This has been on my shelf forever… and while it took a few pages (I had to reread the first 5 pages) to get a handle on the writing style, and then it blew me away. I could almost feel this story settling over me like a blanket while reading. Set in Cairo, this tells a story in 4 different perspectives.

Pickpick

What to make of a novel of essays? Apparently JMC took his own published essays and their criticism (good, tough criticism) and made a novel out of it, with an afterlife confrontation added in. Of course, these are Elizabeth Costello‘s speeches in the book.

So it works and also doesn‘t. First chapter of Realism is fantastic. Later obsession with the morality on veganism was ok - but, i had trouble caring. But i still kind of liked it overall.

Still warming my cat (and vice versa). Trying out Coetzee. Lovely 1st chapter toying with perspectives on Realism.

Leftcoastzen I haven‘t read him either, looking forward to your review! A good day for cat warming!😻😁 5mo
