Craziness, as in people out of control. A Mormon elder is murdered at his church and all his secrets come out. Linda, the Bishop‘s wife and Curt, the Bishop, find his body. In the process of the duties to the church they become involved in finding the murderer. Lots of action and creepiness, but also a few moments of humor.

The old mansion, & its mysterious inhabitant, down the lane from Trixie‘s home becomes the source of Trixie and Honey‘s summer adventures.

It‘s been so long since I read these stories. & they are just as much fun as I remember. I love all the characters so much, and the setting is just charming. My mom lent me her old copy, & she was so delighted to hear other people had read these books. Can‘t wait to keep going! 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

MamaGina Oh my, what a blast from the past! Trixie and her friends definitely influenced my life long love of reading mysteries. I read so many of these as a preteen. Thanks for sharing, love knowing you enjoyed revisiting this series! 💕 6h

Pretty Boy Dead: A Novel | Joseph Hansen

The book opens with Steve Archer returning home in the morning having woken up in a strange bed, only to find the police at his apartment ready to arrest him for the murder of his boyfriend, Coy. The bulk of the book is a flashback telling how this all came about (which I did not realise for quite a while and was thus terribly confused), and the final 20-30 pages (out of 200) shows Steve looking for the real murderer to exonerate himself. ⬇

rwmg It's a 1960s attempt at gay noir but, quite apart from language and attitudes which would not pass muster nowadays, I found some characters so forgettable that I had no idea who they were when they re-appeared. I have good, albeit vague, memories from the early 1980s of the author's Dave Brandstetter series, which I might revisit some day but this stand-alone deserves its fate of languishing in obscurity despite several re-issues over the years. 4d
The_Book_Ninja Sounds as bad as that cover looks. 4d

HE WAS NAKED IN A STRANGE BED, one of those beds that stands in a closet all day, like a bad child.

This mystery classic had humor and some quirky characters. Published in #1942 , the setting is an academic library with librarian Gilda as the amateur sleuth. She‘s prickly, but with a flare that makes her entertaining. Johnson uses this book to softly poke fun at academia. A nice lighthearted mystery at a time where levity was needed. The audio took me awhile to get into, but I overall enjoyed this one. #192025

Thanks #NetGalley & the publisher

Now that we've finished our Nancy Drew read for the month, I'm starting another childhood nostalgia series!! I read Nancy when I was younger, 9-10ish, and didn't discover Trixie until I was a little older, maybe 12-13. I remember finding her a more relatable character - where Nancy is almost superhuman in her skills, Trixie, with her everyday family, love of horses, and parents who made her do homework, felt more approachable! A few of us are ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) are going to read these together, one book a month, with discussions around the 30th. Anyone is free to join us!!

@curiouserandcurioser @BookmarkTavern @DebinHawaii - really looking forward to rereading these!!!

mabell I LOVED Trixie!! I would look for her in secondhand shops on road trips growing up! I haven‘t read them since I was young, and I would be nervous to in case they‘re different than I remember 😬 1w
DGRachel I never read this series. Tempting! 1w

lauraisntwilder I've been wanting to read these! My mom loved them, but her copies are lost somewhere in her house. (They were old, with pulpy paper, so I wonder if they've been stored poorly and have turned to dust!) I've been searching online, but haven't had much luck. I may have to read them as ebooks. 1w
curiouserandcurioser @TheAromaofBooks I'm so excited for this! I love Trixie Belden!! 1w
TheAromaofBooks @Read4life @lauraisntwilder - I added you both to the tag list!! 1w
TheAromaofBooks @lauraisntwilder - My copies are all cheap ones from the 70s, so I am going to have to read them with caution!! Hope you can find them somewhere!! 1w
mjtwo I was such a huge fan and still have most of the series at my parents‘ house. My youngest daughter is actually named Beatrix, which is my secret tribute. No one else seems to remember them! Such a lovely surprise to see it on Litsy. 1w
TheAromaofBooks @mjtwo - Well if you find your copies and would like to join us, feel free to jump in any time!! That's actually fantastic about your daughter being named Beatrix - I think it's such a fun name!! 1w
mabell @TheAromaofBooks It does sound fun! Are you starting April 30 or May? I still haven‘t started The Wind in the Willows 😅😆 1w
TheAromaofBooks @mabell - We are starting this month, and then one book a month going forward. I actually haven't started Willows yet either! 😂 1w

This book #involvesart … and murder. It doesn‘t seem very popular on Litsy!

Picture is from the immersive Monet exhibit I visited last month. Hence the deck chairs!

One of the first books I read with ghosts.

What a wonderful read (reread)! Still love this story, and still believe that her cat is immortal...that isn't in the storyline, just me...
