Got to the halfway mark today. Listening to Andy Serkis narrate these books is such a fantastic thing 🌿✨🌿 #lotr #middleearthmarch #lordoftherings #fellowshipofthering #jrrtolkien #currentlyreading

Some of my notes while reading Fellowship of the Ring for the first time 😆 #middleearthmarch #lordoftherings #lotr #fellowshipofthering #currentlyreading #jrrtolkien

KCofKaysville @SeatoSkyes I did not even notice such details but overlooked them while being enthralled by the story and the characters. 2y
SeaToSkyes @KCofKaysville since this is my first time reading the stories after only seeing the films, I'm trying to pay close attention to the differences. Maybe too close! 2y
KCofKaysville @SeaToSkyes Definitely the movies skip a lot. Where is Tom Bombadill? 2y

SeaToSkyes @KCofKaysville yes! I believe I just got to the part where we meet him 2y
shanaqui They're both first cousins once removed and second cousins once removed: Frodo's mother was Bilbo's first cousin from Bilbo's mother's side, and Frodo's father was Bilbo's second cousin on Bilbo's father's side. Given all that complexity, makes sense for Frodo to call Bilbo his uncle -- in the same way, I called some of my parents' extended family “uncle“ and “aunt“ as a kid even though they were technically cousins once/twice removed! 2y
SeaToSkyes @shanaqui it is easy for Frodo to call him uncle but why did Tolkien have to make it so complicated! Lol 😂 2y

🌿Happy #middleearthmarch 🌿

This is part of my tiny collection. I forgot about some of my items and also this picture had to be cropped for Litsy.

This month, I'm reading the entire #lordoftherings series for the first time. Being a fan of the films for most of my life, I have only ever read The Hobbit. It's so exciting to finally read the original material that's been such an important part of my life! #jrrtolkien #middleearth #thehobbit

Roary47 Man that is an awesome goal! 2y
SeaToSkyes @Roary47 thank you!! ☺️ 2y

#FellowshipOfTolkien

Thought l'd share some of my Instagram pictures for #middleearthmarch

This one is a Slovakian illustration from the first chapter of The Hobbit. I love the illustrations from before the film trilogies. I find that they were more unique.

Day 21 - Ithilien: Faramir and the Rangers of Ithilien

Faramir is a phenomenal character in the book. He's a breath of fresh air and an inspiration for the reader as well as other characters.

As much as l love the films, l hate what they did to him.

TK421 I completely agree with you. For people that watched the films, and had not read the books, Faramir was a good, honorable, and fairly likeable character. For those of that loved the books, the movie didn't do him justice. He displayed the qualities that once made Gondor great. 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Great pic! 👍 5y
BarbaraJean Ugggggh, yes—Faramir is one of my biggest frustrations with the movies. He is one of my favorite characters in the books, and in the movies, he‘s stripped of all the characteristics that make him a favorite. 5y

Daisey Agreeing with all the comments so far! Beautiful photo and so true about Faramir! 5y
JazzFeathers @TK421 I knew that Faramir was different in the books, but when l reread him with the #LotRChapterADay two years ago, l was shocked to see how the relation character is. Nothing to do with the guy with the same name in the films 😆 5y
JazzFeathers @BarbaraJean True. In the films he is little more than an excuse for a bit of action and drama 😧 5y
JazzFeathers @Daisey Thanks. I had a lot of fun taking the photos for the #MiddleEarthMarch 5y

#MiddleEarthMarch Day 21 - Dunharrow: Courses and ghosts on the Path of the Dead

I feel this is one of the least popular episodes in the book, and yet is soooo atmospheric and mysterious. I love that sense of being in contact with the dead, and so with the past. A past that doesn't reavel all is secrets (Stone of Erech anyone?).

Let's face it, ghosts in Middle-Earth are so fascinating.

#YearOfTolkien

Daisey I think it can be kind of tough to fit in with everything else because it is quite different, but I do love the dark and mysterious atmosphere of this section. 5y

#MiddleEarthMarch Day 20 - Minas Tirith: The White Tree of Gondor

The White Tree is a symbol, of course. For me, it's the symbol of the union history creats. That common experience that, no matter what time and what place, unite all human beings.

#MiddleEarthMarch Day 19 - Osgiliath: Outposts, capitals and forgotten history

The sequenses dedicated to Osgiliath in the film trilogy are so great that we often forget Osgiliath never really appears in the book. But it is a fantastic city, with a great history.

The film suggests that the two towers are Orthanc and Barad-Dur. I've always thought they were Minas lthil and Minas Anor on the opposite shores of Osgiliath's bridge.
