Another of the greats we lost this past week? Louise Gluck. In the 1990s/early 2000s, I often began my writing day by reading one of her poems to recall my own connection to words. ("In our family, everyone loves flowers./That's why the graves are so odd." RIP, Louise. Thank you.

IndoorDame So sad. RIP 6mo

Gluck's eleventh collection is a powerful meditation as she creates the lives of men, women, children of an unnamed Mediterranean village over generations. Some leave only to return, some stay their whole lives, all questioning their motives and decisions. A beautiful, passionate work of a major poet. Highly recommended.

Suet624 Jeepers. I didn‘t even know about this one! 3y

I hadn‘t heard about Louise Gluck before she won the Nobel Prize for Literature last year. Since the waiting list at the library was insane, I decided to buy my own copy of one of collections and I‘m so glad I did.

To me it feels like every poem tells a story. About youth, marriage, growing old, meeting a friend for coffee and burning leaves. All things that happen in a village.

Last poetry collection of the year and may let it carry over (vs rush thru just to finish by 12/31 🙄) I am enjoying it. #DogsofLitsy #EstherAssisting #poetry

I reserved this copy from the library not realizing it was going to be a chunker, and that other people like me were wanting to better acquaint themselves with this awardee of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2020. Nevertheless, before returning this to the library today, I copied out six poems that I would enjoy re-reading, anytime. #LouiseGlück #chunkster #bigfatbooks #nobelprizeinliterature #poetry #chunkers #ilovelibraries #LouiseGluck
