Family secrets abound wrapped in bitterness and poor decisions made out of fear over the course of decades. I appreciated the effort to show how these lies and unethical actions can come back to destroy you years later, but this felt too messy and left me wishing it had focused more on the reason behind Nora killing her brother and how the family had to cope with the possibility of losing two children. 3⭐️ s.

Theo explores the complexities of government‘s right to ‘eminent domain‘ by representing a family who have lived for generations in a country home with 100+ acres and are now refusing to sell. (“pave paradise and put up a parking lot”) Great story and characters!

marleed I read 3 TB books back to back and really enjoyed these middle grade stories. I had no family member involved in law as I grew up and wondered as I read if those books might have changed my career path had I read them oh say 40 years earlier🤣 1w

This novel is in the series with the Attorney Bennie Rosato in it. Her law firm is Rosato and Associates. Bennie is acused of murder. Bennie is determined to prove she is innocent and find the killer. The pace is quite fast and lots of action. The author has never disappointed me. 4/5⭐️

In a novel about a 13-year-old girl who shot her brother, you want to read about their mother‘s old flame from high school, right? If so, you‘re in luck, as the book spends the majority of the time on that relationship.

That wasn‘t the case for me, though. I felt like the character‘s motivations and connections could have been explored much further in this intricate and layered set-up.

Very hard to get through.

Harry Devlin's promiscuous ex-wife, Liz, is murdered in an alley. It seems every secondary character in the book has a reason to want Liz dead. Since Harry is still in love with Liz, he sets out to find the murderer. The plot plods along as Harry slowly eliminates suspects. There's a bit of romance between Harry and his neighbor, Brenda Rixton.

This is the first book in a series about Harry Devlin. I'll try the next book and see.
