Had a fun morning walking Wicket at the park while listening to the latest LeVar Burton Reads. LeVar went really old school with Ray Bradbury‘s “The Great Wide World Over There.” There‘s been a great variety of stories this season. Now, I gotta go do some writing of my own. #LBReads #AmWriting #RayBradbury #shortstory #shortstories #podcast #dogsoflitsy

Maewyn Aww, my first dog was named Wicket. So cute! ♥️ 6y

During the past year, I‘ve started to warm up to the idea of audiobooks, but I‘m realizing my favorite readers so far are all guys. I love listening to James Marsters and LeVar Burton. Any recommendations for which female readers are among the best? Preferably not in romance or contemporary. Who are the readers that elevate a good story to a great one for you? #audiobook #audiobooks #LBReads

Abby-J I like Mary Robbinette Kowal. She reads her own books and books by several other writers, too. Try reading her stand alone Ghost Talkers to get a feel for her reading and writing. If you like the Dresden Files, you may also enjoy Seanan McGuire‘s October Day series that Kowal also reads. I‘ll tag the first in the series. 6y
CatLass007 I really like the narrator of the Mercy Thompson urban fantasy series. I just can‘t remember her name off the top of my head. 6y
BillBlume @Abby-J, thanks! 6y

Seekingtardis I have no help to give but I do love James! I will listen to any book he narrates!! 6y
CatLass007 You‘re welcome! 6y
swishandflick I have a thing for accents, haha. The narrator for The Girl With All the Gifts is great 😄 6y
swishandflick Also Davina Porter is phenomenal. She does the Outlander series which you probably aren't interested in, falls a bit into the romance category. But I'm sure she must narrate other stuff too! 6y
BillBlume @Seekingtardis same here. He‘s really won me over as I‘ve made my way through the Dresden Files. Heck, he‘s one of the main reasons I‘m still going through that series. 6y
BillBlume @swishandflick, thanks! Just added The Girl with All the Gifts audiobook to my library holds. And I‘ll keep an eye out for Davina Porter, too. (edited) 6y
Seekingtardis He doesn‘t narrate Ghost Story and it is my least favorite book in the series!! 6y
Crewgurl Moira Quirk!!! Her performance of the Finishing School series is amazing. 6y
BillBlume @Crewgurl thanks! I‘ll check that out. 6y

Haven‘t yet gotten to post on Litsy after listening to the first episode from season two of “LeVar Burton Reads.” The episode features John Chu‘s “Repairing the World” (from Apex Magazine #59, April 20 which isn‘t in Litsy‘s database). The podcast does an excellent job bringing this story to life, with all the quality of season one and more. I‘m including my fav quote in the comments since it‘s a tad spoilery. Also putting links in the comments.

BillBlume “If she was going to prevent other worlds from intruding, this world ought to be one worth preserving.” #podcast #LBReads #JohnChu #shortstories #shortstory 6y

‪Excited, because my favorite podcast returns tomorrow for the start of its second season. “LeVar Burton Reads” features some fantastic short stories. Lesley Nneka Arimah is among the writers this amazing podcast introduced me to last year. Can‘t wait to listen to John Chu‘s “Repairing the World” tomorrow!‬ #podcast #LBReads

For this Mad Libs Reading Challenge, the one blank to fill that I had the most fun with was number 8: “Any Book Title.” Since I wanted an anthology/short story collection among my selections, I decided to go with What It Means When a Man Falls From the Sky by Lesley Nneka Arimah. The titular short story was my favorite episode from the season one podcast of “LeVar Burton Reads.” #ERMadLibs #shortstory #shortstories #LBReads #LesleyNnekaArimah

Five-Carat Soul | James McBride

Got an unexpected surprise last night as “LeVar Burton Reads” released a bonus episode. LeVar read the story “Goat” from the collection Five-Carat Soul to a live audience and interviewed the author James McBride about the story and its twist. It‘s powerful and sucker punches your gut at the end, and LeVar‘s performance only makes it even more powerful. Can‘t recommend listening/reading enough. #LBReads #JamesMcBride

This week's "LeVar Burton Reads" is a really fun story about a wizard who forces a thief to work for him. The story is "Empty Spaces" by Richard Parks and was in the anthology Fantasy: The Best of the Year (2006). The dialogue between the wizard and the thief are a lot of fun, and LeVar does a great job bringing them to life. Already looking forward to listening to the second part of the story next week. #fantasy #LBReads #shortstories
