Bailedbailed

I got to dust off the old DNF beating stick for this one. Bailed at 77% the author telling us to downsize our dildo collection was the first red flag ๐Ÿšฉ๐Ÿ˜… But in all seriousness if you have triggers around harm to animals I would skip this one. The author has some messed up ideas about decluttering pets which ultimately made me stop reading. #BirthdayPixieReadathon #MarchMadness #AllHailTheBail

Eggs Yikes 3d
AvidReader25 What?!?! How do you declutter your pets? Sounds like a definite one to avoid for me. 3d
MatchlessMarie @AvidReader25 I was listening on audio and thought I misheard so I downloaded the kindle version but I heard right. She decided to put down one of her dogs when she was moving out of the country because she thought it would have been to hard to rehome him since he was an older dog and didn‘t want to deal with quarantining him. 3d

Susanita Oh no no no. Thanks for the warning. 3d
DieAReader Yikes! Sounds like the perfect DNF!๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ 3d
AvidReader25 @MatchlessMarie that seriously makes me feel physically sick. I can‘t even imagine doing that. 2d

We‘re over halfway through March #AuthorAMonth readers! Here‘s our March author John Steinbeck with his travel buddy Charley. ๐Ÿถ

Our April author will be Ruth Ware, get your library holds placed if needed.

See All 25 Comments
Andrew65 Finally get to the Ruth Ware book Iโ€˜ve owned for a while. (edited) 2w
AmyG I have The It Girl on reserveโ€ฆ.I am supposedly next in line. 2w
Cinfhen I read Travels with Charley this month!! So good. Not sure which book by Ware I‘ll be picking up / I‘m not a fan ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ 2w
Soubhiville @Cinfhen I don‘t care for her either so I‘ll be skipping. 2w
Lcsmcat @Cinfhen I liked Travels With Charley when I read it! I may skip next month though. Not a fan either. 2w
CoffeeNBooks @Andrew65 That's the first Ruth Ware book I read, and it's my favorite of her books! 2w
squirrelbrain @AmyG - I have that one bookmarked on Scribd. It‘s so looong though - 17hours on audio! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ 2w
Pageturner1 i‘ve got a couple of her books to read. ๐Ÿ˜€ 2w
Andrew65 @CoffeeNBooks It‘s one I look forward to getting to. Like your comments, I have heard positive things about it. 2w
Cinfhen Oh good!!! I‘m in awesome company @Soubhiville @Lcsmcat when it comes to Ware. I read It Girl @squirrelbrain @AmyG it was ok but not worth 17 hours on audio ๐Ÿ˜ณ 2w
AmyG @Soubhiville Haโ€ฆI shall find out as I reserved the audiobook. ๐Ÿ˜ณ And I just found The Woman in Cabin 10 so will try to read that, too. (edited) 2w
Amiable @Cinfhen @Lcsmcat I haven‘t enjoyed what I‘ve read by Ruth Ware either, but I‘m trying to be on the โ€œevery-authorโ€ list this year! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Whatever I get for April will definitely be a library book so I don‘t have to pay for it. ๐Ÿ˜€ 2w
Deblovestoread I‘ve haven‘t read Ware and am not sure what I‘ll try but will likely stay away from a 17 hour audio book ๐Ÿ˜‚ 2w
Cinfhen I think that‘s the right attitude @Amiable ๐Ÿ˜I‘m gonna follow your lead and there‘s no shame in #AllHailTheBail if NEED BE ๐Ÿ˜‰ 2w
squirrelbrain Yes, I‘m aiming for that too @Amiable ! I found It Girl at the digital library as well as audio so might mix it up to speed it up! @Cinfhen @AmyG I also found 3 more at the digital library but, really weirdly, it claims that they are ALL 352 pages long. ๐Ÿค” 2w
JacqMac @Cinfhen I am also not a fan. I‘m going to see what the library has because I don‘t want to buy one. lol 2w
AmyG @squirrelbrain Well that‘s weird. I mean , her books are all similar length. ๐Ÿ˜ณ 2w
Read4life @Andrew65 I agree with @CoffeeNBooks ๐Ÿค“ I did save The It Girl for April when I saw she was the #AuthorAMonth author. It‘s the only one I haven‘t read yet. I‘ll reread Snowflakes, too. 2w
Andrew65 @Read4life I‘ve got the IT Girl, The Lying Game and One by One on hold too. 2w
Cinfhen @JacqMac SAME!!!! 2w

Just a few days left in February #AuthorAMonth readers. I hope you‘re enjoying your time with Taylor Jenkins Reid.

March brings us to John Steinbeck, get your library holds placed if needed. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ“š

TheKidUpstairs My TJR hold still hasn't come in ๐Ÿง it's two weeks overdue ๐Ÿ˜ซ so frustrating! 1mo
See All 33 Comments
Soubhiville @TheKidUpstairs that is frustrating. My library discontinued late fees, and I wondered if that would mean some people just kept books as long as they wanted to, regardless of whether there were holds on it. 1mo
Megabooks Just checked out 2 Steinbecks from the library! 1mo
Andrew65 February has been a great month for #AuthorAMonth. Hopefully can repeat this with Steinbeck. 1mo
IndoorDame @Soubhiville speaking as someone who has benefited immensely from this policy, I donโ€˜t think itโ€˜s that simple https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/10/07/us/new-york-public-library-fines-eliminated-c... 1mo
Bklover Loved this month! Can‘t wait for March! 1mo
SamAnne Very much looking forward to reading East of Eden in March! One of Steinbeck's I've not read! 1mo
AllDebooks I'm really looking forward to Steinbeck. ๐Ÿ˜Š 1mo
Susanita Steinbeck and I are like oil and water, but maybe I‘ll do better with this one set near where I was born. 1mo
AmyG I just got (audiobook) The Pearl. Ha, I am not even sure if I ever read it. @SamAnne you are in for a treat. Excellent book! (edited) 1mo
Soubhiville @IndoorDame thanks for sharing the article. I know there are good reasons for it, and I think it is best that fees are eliminated. I just understand the frustration of not getting a book in the expected/ predicted time. 1mo
Soubhiville @AmyG I loved The Pearl in school, and hope to reread that one. 1mo
IndoorDame @Soubhiville totally, I don‘t think any of us will ever escape that frustration! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™ƒ 1mo
CoffeeNBooks @SamAnne It's a great book! 1mo
CoffeeNBooks @Susanita I really liked Cannery Row, but I love all things John Steinbeck. ๐Ÿ˜† 1mo
CoffeeNBooks I'm not sure how February went by so quickly! ๐Ÿ˜ณ I've had less time to read this month to begin with, and then February doesn't have the regular number of days ๐Ÿ˜‚, so I never got to my TJR pick. 1mo
dariazeoli I‘m finishing the third of the TJR books I had on Mount TBR this month. I‘m so happy! Debating one Steinbeck chunkster or several short works for Marchโ€ฆ 1mo
Soubhiville @dariazeoli choices ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ˜! 1mo
BarkingMadRead Finished my February selection the other night, and have my Steinbeck put aside for March! 1mo
Bluebird I really enjoyed the Feb choice. Read 3 books and waiting on a library loan for number 4 ๐Ÿ˜„. I‘m not sure I‘ll join for March. I‘m not a Steinbeck fan. Read one book years ago in high school and got turned off. Haven‘t tried him again. Anyone have a suggestion for a reluctant reader? 1mo
Cinfhen I read two this monthโ€ฆenjoyed them both and I‘ve got two lined up for next month๐Ÿค“Thanks so much for this fun monthly challenge๐Ÿ˜ 1mo
Cinfhen @SamAnne EoE was PHENOMENAL!!! Such an amazing story. LOVED IT 1mo
Cinfhen @Bluebird see my above comment ๐Ÿ‘†๐ŸฝI felt the same until I read this one, but it‘s a bit of a chunkster, but so worth it (edited) 1mo
DHill I‘m planning on reading 1mo
Bluebird Thanks @Cinfhen I‘ll give it a try! I‘m no longer stubborn about needing to finish books, so I can easily bail if it‘s not working for me. 1mo
Cinfhen Yay @Bluebird I hope it grabs and holds your attention but there‘s no shame in walking away #AllHailTheBail ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป 1mo
DrexEdit I've started reading the Steinbeck book you sent me @Soubhiville. Steinbeck is a little old-fashioned in his gender views, but otherwise the book is so far delightful! 1mo

Bailedbailed

Two bails. Sorry @Cinfhen and @BarbaraBB but I wasn‘t feeling the #IndependentWomen buddy read, but I‘m excited to participate in the rest of the weekend! ๐Ÿ˜˜

Cancel Cultureโ€ฆhe was giving a simplistic history lesson and saying bus boycotts - cancel culture, Boston tea party - cancel culture. He started by making sharp observations about current cancel culture, but after 2+ hours of these basic historical references, I had to bail. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

#ToB23 double bail. I‘ve read enough of these to know I‘m headed for so-so reviews at most so back to the library they go!

Ruthiella That‘s fair! As @Cinfhen writes #Allhailthebail ๐Ÿ‘ 1mo
kwmg40 I managed to get through 2AM (but didn't especially like it) and I too bailed on Manhunt. 1mo
BarbaraBB Echoing @kwmg40 1mo

Cinfhen Good call! If you‘re not feeling it, don‘t waste your time #AllHailTheBail it‘s so liberating @Ruthiella ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ 1mo
squirrelbrain What @kwmg40 and @BarbaraBB said! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ 1mo
batsy Sorry Manhunt wasn't for you but totally understandable! I'm kind of intrigued by the Kalfus premise, but a lot of reviews have been not enthusiastic ๐Ÿ™‚ 1mo

#weeklyforecast @Cinfhen

I‘m trying very hard to get into the tagged book for my bookclub meeting this Friday, but I don‘t like the writing style and might bail ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜ฉ. I hate bailing on a BC read.

Almost done with Madly, Deeply, which will make me sad.

Just starting The Women Could Fly, looking forward to it!

And All the Living etc. is for another BC, hope it‘s better!

Have a great reading week!

Cinfhen I also hate bailing on bookclub books๐Ÿฅนand the tagged book actually sounds fascinating BUT โ€ฆ.if it‘s not working, it‘s not working #AllHailTheBail 1mo
IamIamIam I so get that! I joined a book club that reads very popular book club type books AND romances, which are so not for me... It's been a struggle these last few months! It also reminded me of why I started my own book club all those years ago!!! 1mo
Prairiegirl_reading My book club has a rule that if you‘ve already read a book you can‘t suggest it so no one is insulted when someone doesn‘t like a book they love. I suggested one once that I could only read 70 pages (and I really pushed myself to get that far). I went to the meeting and said this was so boring, I couldn‘t get into it and I‘m sorry I suggested it but not everyone felt that way. I think it‘s part of book club for there to be dissenting opinions. 1mo
TEArificbooks I hate bailing on a book club book too, but I read that whole book last year and hated every minute of it. I hated the writing and he argued against himself throughout. He was trying to point out women that influenced our food but at the end of each chapter he pointed out all these other women that were more famous more influential. Drove me nuts. Just bail. 1mo
Soubhiville @TEArificbooks thank you for that! I don‘t feel bad about bailing on books I‘m reading โ€œfor funโ€ but this is harder. I see reviews on here aren‘t goodโ€ฆ I‘m going to give it just a bit longer but I don‘t expect to finish it. 1mo

Pickpick

Awwww, this was such a sweet book๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ Inspired by a true story! The friendship between a young girl, a dog, a silverback gorilla and a baby elephant. My choice for #52Books23 #NewberryWinner EXCELLENT audio narration ๐ŸŽงโ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿฅ‡I‘m definitely reading the next bookโ€ฆ.#ReturnOfSappyCindy

KarenUK Your hashtags always make me smile ๐Ÿ˜Š! Middle grade is always a nice change of paceโ€ฆ. ๐Ÿ’• 1mo
Cinfhen Thanks @KarenUK xxxx 1mo
BarbaraBB Another #sappyCin! Good for you ๐Ÿ’• 1mo
Cinfhen Yup @BarbaraBB as I‘m really just putting off getting back to 1mo
BarbaraBB Lol I understand ๐Ÿ’ฏ 1mo
Megabooks ๐Ÿ’œ #sappyCindy! I started Women this morning, but I‘m also finishing this short story collection @BarbaraBB 1mo
BarbaraBB @Megabooks Another Wilson! Are his short stories as bizarre as his novels? 1mo
Megabooks @BarbaraBB yes! Most of these were written around the time he was in college, and they are so impressive for that age or really any one but they have a youthful perspective. (Plus he and I are roughly the same age and grew up in the same region so I find them nostalgic as well.) now I‘ve read all his books, which is a bit sad because of the wait for a new one! I preferred this to his newer collection. 1mo
Cinfhen Wilson definitely has a unique writing style!! I read this collection but it was just too odd for me @BarbaraBB plus I‘m not a fan of short stories- but there‘s no denying his talent @Megabooks 1mo
Cinfhen I‘ll be watching for your review of #FlyingWomen @Megabooks ๐Ÿ˜‰I think @BarbaraBB will be curious too๐Ÿ˜… 1mo
BarbaraBB I am and I have a hunch ๐Ÿ˜‚ @Megabooks (edited) 1mo
BarbaraBB @Megabooks I still have Panic on my shelves. Looking forward to that one too! 1mo
Cinfhen The struggle is real @BarbaraBB 1mo
Cinfhen I really liked Panic @BarbaraBB @Megabooks it wasn‘t as ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ‘–as some of his other stories 1mo
Megabooks @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB at 15% I think I‘m going to #allhailthebail on Women. The music therapy has given me an awful headache when I look at screens (squinting my eyes just to write this), and I wasn‘t enjoying it enough for how troublesome it is. Tbqh the whole plot was silly and far-fetched. The blurb sounded good but the execution is waaaayyy sub par. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ 1mo
BarbaraBB @Megabooks You are so right about bailing, the books is ridiculous and silly indeed. Take some rest after the music therapy โค๏ธ 1mo
Cinfhen I was going to email both of you @Megabooks @BarbaraBB but I‘ve gotten hooked on a Netflix series and it‘s CONSUMING me - anyhow Flying is SO BAD!!! I‘m on page 152 and I just can‘t go on!!! I will, but yikes ๐Ÿ˜ณ don‘t feel bad at all, Meg. Hope the MT starts to work it‘s magic ๐Ÿช„ 1mo

Bailedbailed

I tried. I really did. I want to be a person who enjoys Cormac McCarthy but, as this was my second attempt at reading him, I think I can safely say he is just not for me. The good news is that I only have one more #tob23 book to go.

Pogue He is not for me either. You are not alone 2mo
