She's one of the most talented authors for fantasy and sci-fi within the YA market. The Great Hunt: Book 2 of the Wheel of Time | Robert Jordan

My third choice for #5AuthorsImThankful4 is Robert Jordan. Like myself, Jordan was from South Carolina. I always felt that if he could make it into publishing in spite of being from SC, then I could make it, too. I know it was horribly flawed logic, but it helped motivate me when I was younger. Maxxxpower64 I really want to like this series and I've read to book 4 twice and then stopped. I have loved bits of it but the characterization has really annoyed me. The male characters are all sulky and self-loathing...I don't have powers, I don't have powers, I don't have powers...wait for a suitably dramatic plot device that is impossible to get out of then....oh I have powers. Then we go back to denying them again. The female's are just bitchy. 7y

Maxxxpower64 I'm also a little put off by the constant reviews of the middle of the series losing its way. That's a lot of pages to wade through if they are not good books. Ugh....not sure what to do. 7y

Climbing the Stairs | Padma Venkatraman

My second choice for #5AuthorsImThankful4 is Padma Venkatraman. I read her novel A Time to Dance earlier this year, and it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever enjoyed. She also spoke at this year's James River Writers Conference this past October in Richmond. This lady is a force to be reckoned with, and my wife and I enjoyed talking with her. Her spirit is as beautiful as her writing. #YALit #PadmaVenkatraman #youngadultnovel
