"I would save the last two bullets. One for Hilton and one for me." Father James O'Ryan has lived his life by a high moral code; using his beliefs to uphold the sanctity of the church he has pledged his life to serve. After the church places him in the sleepy town of Temora, Father O'Ryan finds himself tempted with lust and distracted by the dangerous actions of his fellow priests. Will he turn a blind eye to the events surrounding him and take the fall for his brethren or will he issue justice with his own hands?

I enjoyed the storyline, and I appreciated Father O'Ryan's character. Although, sometimes I wish I was more 'in' the story than listening to O'Ryan dictate it to me. That being said, the plot was strong enough to keep me hooked. Overall, I liked it.

Mehso-so

This book had a great story, but the writing kept throwing me off. I wondered why and I figured it out this evening-it lacked soul. In other words, it was stiff. One priest lives with a pedophile/corrupt priest. When a boy is killed, the town turns on the protagonist because they don't like him. While I am not panning it, it was more miss than hit. I think maybe because I am a priest-type that I knew he wouldn't do certain things. It was just ok.

What do you do with a book where the writing is pretty bad, but the story is really well done? I love the idea of an unpopular priest who knows the other priest molested and possibly killed a boy, but everyone hates him so no one listens, but the writing is distracting.

TheBookAddict That's a tough call... 😕 8y
NerdyRev @TheBookAddict It really is. I have to finish it for review, but it is rough at times. 8y
TheBookAddict @NerdyRev oh man, that's even tougher, since you've committed to finish it for a review. I hope it's not too long. 8y
