Hat for Mrs. Goldman: A Story about Knitting and Love
Hat for Mrs. Goldman: A Story about Knitting and Love | Michelle Edwards
7 posts | 10 read | 7 to read
Here s a heartwarming winter picture book that s sure to appeal to families who love knitting. Mrs. Goldman always knits hats for everyone in the neighborhood, and Sophia, who thinks knitting is too hard, helps by making the pom-poms. But now winter is here, and Mrs. Goldman herself doesn t have a hat she s too busy making hats for everyone else! It s up to Sophia to buckle down and knit a hat for Mrs. Goldman. But try as Sophia might, the hat turns out lumpy, the stitches aren t even, and there are holes where there shouldn t be holes. Sophia is devastated until she gets an idea that will make Mrs. Goldman s hat the most wonderful of all. Readers both young and old will relate to Sophia s frustrations, as well as her delight in making something special for someone she loves. A knitting pattern is included in the back of the book."

Sophie‘s Jewish neighbor Mrs Goldman is always knitting and giving her hats away. Sophie is good at making pompoms, but knitting is not something she especially enjoys.

When Sophie discovers that Mrs Goldman has given away her usual hat and has nothing to keep her head warm, she sets out to make Mrs Goldman a special hat- not a perfect hat, but one with twenty pompoms and lots of effort and love.

This book was adorable and made me cry! Sophia spends time with her neighbor, Mrs. Goldman who makes hats for her friend's keppies because it is a mitzvah! Of course, she doesn't have one for herself, but Sophia knits one all by herself! Very cute and here is one reason I don't knit... lol

This is a really sweet book about friendship and giving. Mrs. Goldman makes hats for people who need them, and the main character helps her by making pom-poms for the tops. When Mrs. Goldman gives away her own hat, the little girl works on her knitting until she can make a hat for her selfless friend. My son didn't expect to like this based on the cover and title, but he ended up loving it! We're at 112 books! #1000booksbeforekindergarten

Cinfhen So does he start kindergarten this fall??? I love this idea... 7y
readinginthedark @Cinfhen Yes, he does! We don't have a lot of time. You're supposed to start it with babies or toddlers, I think, but we just found out about it from the library a few weeks ago. We'll do our best, but I promised him a book prize at the end even if we don't finish in time. 😊 7y

This book is so cute! We voted it Hicklebee's Book of the Year! It's got knitting, pom poms, intergenerational friendships, and a lot of sweetness. You can even make your own hats and poms with instructions at the end! #kidlit #picturebooks

It's rare that a children's book about doing a mitzvah tugs at the heartstrings, but this story about #knitting and love between a young Mexican American girl and her older Jewish neighbor nearly made me weep. Find the full review of today's #bookcoveroftheweek here: http://bit.ly/2cX7XEM
