My daughter works at a farm & produce shop, and gets a discount, so guess what's on my agenda for today?
Not entirely sure that this is a money-saving enterprise, since I had to invest in a food mill today, but maybe it will pay off in the end? 😄

Tamra Yay, lucky you! I know for me canning isn‘t money saving, but I enjoy the process. It‘s one of those flow state activities. Enjoy! 🍅 1y
Texreader Look at those gorgeous tomatoes! Mmmmmm!! 1y
SamAnne It‘s not been a great canning year for me but I have cranberry- orange marmalade on the agenda for next week! 1y

Aimeesue @Tamra Ha! I *wish* I got into a flow state! This is on,y the second time I've canned stuff since watching my mother and grandmother do it when I was a kid. I got it done, and I certainly learned a lot today, so there's that! 😋 1y
Aimeesue @Texreader They were really nice. TOO nice. I kept eating bits and now I have a canker sore! That'll teach me to sample the wares. 😂 1y
Aimeesue @SamAnne Oh, that sounds great! Im a Massachusetts girl, and cranberries are my fave. I love Thanksgiving because it's the only time I make my favorite Nantucket cranberry pie. Mmmmmm 1y
Tamra @Aimeesue I‘m not all that experienced either. But it‘s fun! 1y
Aimeesue @Tamra It was fun! Also, it was kind of like what would probably happen if Lucy and Ethel ever tried to can tomatoes in some get rich quick scheme. I put the disc in the food mill upside down! 🤣 1y
Tamra @Aimeesue hahaha perfect image! I haven‘t processed fresh tomatoes so I wouldn‘t be any better. 1y
Texreader @Aimeesue That cranberry pie sounds delicious! Care to share a recipe? (edited) 1y
Aimeesue @Texreader Absolutely! And to keep it litty it's one adapted by Laurie Colwin, way back when, for Gourmet. I usus ally leave out the walnuts and sometimes add orange peel, but the almond extract is lovely. http://themailifiles.blogspot.com/2009/09/laurie-colwin-and-nantucket-cranberry.... 1y
Texreader @Aimeesue yay! Thank you! I‘m going to try it. And I love walnuts and just bought some so I‘m all in. 1y
Aimeesue @Texreader You are very welcome. Enjoy! 1y
Texreader @Aimeesue I literally just walked in from buying additional ingredients 1y
Texreader Can you tell me whether I need to boil the cranberries first? I have a bag of the dried cranberries. Thanks! 1y
Aimeesue @Texreader Oh no! You need fresh cranberries, like you get in the produce section! I guess you could try soaking and rehydrating the dried ones, but you'd need to cut back on the sugar in the sugar/cranberry mixture that goes on the bottom because they're already sweetened. 1y
Texreader @Aimeesue We don‘t get fresh cranberries here in south Texas. It‘s either canned or the dry kind in a bag. They are whole in the bag not dehydrated. Maybe that is fresh? 1y
Texreader I googled what fresh cranberries look like. I think what I have is fresh. We only get them once a year at thanksgiving. Thanks for helping me!! 1y
Aimeesue @Texreader Whew! I thought you meant Craisins! 😂 (edited) 1y
Texreader @Aimeesue 😂😉 1y

Strawberry sauce making day! I can‘t procrastinate any longer when I have a box of berries in the house. 🙃

Audio canning to The Woman They Could Not Silence. It‘s a long one!

SamAnne One of my bibles! 3y
Tamra @SamAnne 😊 Do you also like the newest one? I wouldn‘t do without either! 3y
SamAnne @Tamra how new? Mine is about 10 years old. 3y

Pickpick

A bit of welcome color in the heart of winter. The pickled carrots are brighter in person. 😄

This is one of the few Bibles of canning if you are interested in venturing into this addictive pursuit.

Suet624 Those colors are lovely. 3y
Leftcoastzen It‘s such a good book ! I‘ve gifted it to folks who want to start canning . 3y
Tamra @Leftcoastzen perfect! I also like the newer Ball book too. 3y

Blueberry @SamAnne which ones? I bet the Ball book is one. 4y
SamAnne @Blueberry For sure Ball, and Small Batch preserving is great. I also use Kevin West's book, although he's a bit full of himself! Another favorite is Tart and Sweet but a couple of younger hipster canners. 4y
Blueberry @SamAnne I haven't heard of Tart and Sweet. I will look for it. 4y

1. A deciduous forest (in more ways than one).
2. Overdrive/Libby, Chrome, and Litsy. If websites was asked for instead of apps I would have put Goodreads in there.
3. Peanuts (not for me).
4. From a canning workshop last Saturday: zucchini pickles, pickled eggs, sauerkraut. and lemon basil.

Picked blueberries today with my nephew (and son not pictured) and now making some jam. I'm subbing brown sugar so fingers crossed it turns out!

tracey38 Sounds yummy! 6y

3 1/2 lbs of Concord grapes from the vines in my backyard translates into about 5 cups of beautiful juice. I plan to make some jelly. We also have Niagara grapes on our vines. My kitchen smells wonderful.

DebinHawaii That looks so good! 🍇🍇🍇 8y
Melkyl @fern @Bette @DebinHawaii I had two batches of juice and ended up with 18 jars of jelly. I really love making items out of the fruit and vegetables I grow in my yard. It takes me back to my grandparents. 8y
Bette Well, it looks good! 😊 8y
