Fahrenheit-182
Fahrenheit-182: A Memoir | Mark Hoppus, Dan Ozzi
5 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
A smart, funny, and refreshing memoir from Mark Hoppus, the vocalist, bassist, and founding member of pop-punk band blink-182. This is the story of an angst-filled kid from the desert, navigating the chaos of his parents' bitter divorce and searching for his place in the world. Each move across the country was a chance to reinvent himself, switching identities from dork to goth to skate punk, and eventually meeting his best friend who just so happens to be his musical soulmate. With sharp humor and raw honesty, Fahrenheit-182 takes readers through Mark's formative years as a latchkey kid in the 1980s, hooked on punk rock, skateboards, and MTV. Along the way, Mark reflects on his lifelong battle with anxiety, his celebrated career with blink-182, and his public fight with cancer, in a voice thats both relatable and unmistakably his own. Threaded with sharp humor and heartfelt grit, Fahrenheit-182 is more than just a memoir for blink-182 fans. Its a funny, smart, and deeply human story for anyone whos struggled, reinvented themselves, wanted to quit but kept going.

This book is kind of pissing me off because it made me remember how I waited for hours outside in the cold for a ticket to the Blink 182 Pop disaster tour with Green Day (2002) only to be prompted by youth group guilt to give it away 😒. See also exhibit B: proximity of my Enema of the State and Good Charlotte self-titled albums to my Brio Girl novel 🤣

ChaoticMissAdventures Ohhh no! That is so sad. But also. What a time waiting in line for tickets was. Core youth memories. 1d
TheBookHippie Oh dear. 😵‍💫 1d
MatchlessMarie @ChaoticMissAdventures I know right!! Back when Ticket Master was an actual office in the mall. It‘s kind of crazy I somehow talked my parents into letting me go to the Take Off Your Pants and Jacket Tour alone at 12 years old in a time before we had cell phones 😄 1d
ChaoticMissAdventures @MatchlessMarie ahah times were wild then. I had an older cousin who worked at Ticketmaster in rural Oregon (in a sporting goods store 😂) she took me to my first concert at 12 too, mine was Bon Jovi and it was a dream. 1d

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Though I‘m a proud elder millennial, I was, admittedly, only a mild Blink fan. I like, but don‘t love. BUT, music memoirs are so fascinating, and Hoppus seems so open and honest. Blink tea is spilled. And yet, it isn‘t always Mark vs Tom. Times were amazing; time were tumultuous. Loved this. Read Travis‘s book, too. I doubt Tom will ever write one, but he should.

bio_chem06 I can‘t wait to get this! I‘m so ready to read it and be thrown right back to the times when I was telling people I knew the album Cheshire Cat, therefore I‘m way more of a fan than all these other fakers. 1mo
