7-24-25: My 49th finished book of 2025! Wow I really enjoyed this one! It‘s written backwards. Literally goes through the years from 2023 to 1984 in reverse. Wendy and Thom are a married couple. How they became who they are is very interesting but I can‘t give anything away. I‘ll just say the last page is a huge aha moment that circles back to the beginning. Love that! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📖#️⃣4️⃣9️⃣

Peter Swanson is one of my favourite thriller writers and never fails to deliver. His stories flow beautifully and all the characters are well drawn and meaningful to the story. This one is told backwards which could have been gimmicky but it worked for me. In fact I think it was essential to the final scene. I loved this and would highly recommend.

Finally my turn at the library! Been waiting (im)patiently to start this. One of my favorite authors.

Clever, but not it for me. It‘s told in reverse chronological order, which is confusing at first, and the “twist” at the end just didn‘t get it for me.

2.5⭐
• a novel told in reverse • murder mystery • domestic thriller • dual POV (I think) •

This is one book where reading the synopsis/reviews beforehand will end up working in your favor. I spent way too much of this book not realizing that it was being told in reverse. But honestly, telling a story in reverse is just weird. Then there are the characters, talk about unlikable, jeez. Also, this couple has the worst marriage ever.

Loved the unique storytelling: a mystery told in reverse. Plenty of twists (especially the last one) kept me glued to every page. Only downside was every character was pretty unlikable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I thought this was a unique way to tell a story — chronologically in reverse — but I was a little underwhelmed by it as a whole. The ending, which I imagine is supposed to be a shock or reveal, wasn‘t surprising to me. The characters are unlikable, and I do love a good unlikable character, but I wish they would have been fleshed out and not so two-dimensional.

⭐️⭐️💫

I hadn‘t touched the book in a month. I picked it back up today and finished it. It‘s not a 5 star- it‘s a bit drawn out - but it is a really good book. The ending… chef‘s kiss!

I haven‘t touched this book in 4 weeks. It‘s not because I don‘t like it. I think I‘m punishing myself since my husband passed away. I read 150 books last year; this year I‘ve read 5 so far. It‘s like if I would‘ve spent more time with him instead of reading. We were always in the same room, but…I don‘t know.
