ravenlee I love Hinds‘ graphic novels. I found The Odyssey years ago (I collect copies of The Odyssey) and have been slowly reeling in the others ever since. 13mo
TheBookHippie @ravenlee I started with Poe and same slowly collecting them! 13mo
Mommamanzi This makes me so excited! Have to get these for my daughter, Penelope. 13mo
TheBookHippie @Mommamanzi They are all good. My favorite is the Poe one then probably MacBeth however these are just as excellent . I hope she loves them. Readers I‘ve read with have very much enjoyed them. 13mo
Readergrrl Not sure if I mentioned it before on a prior post, but I got to meet Gareth Hinds at an NCTE conference in Boston. He was just such a humble and pleasant person to talk to about teens and art and graphic novels and Shakespeare and Greek mythology and so on and so forth! I felt like I‘d found a kindred spirit even though we only spoke for a a little while. 13mo
TheBookHippie @Readergrrl oh I love that! His books are just so wonderful! 13mo

Slightly easier to follow than traditional book. The pictures help too.

Readergrrl I met Gareth Hinds at an NCTE convention. Such a nice fellow and I love how he keeps his graphic novels tied to the original works. I love his King Lear!!! Such visual madness!! 1y
S3V3N @Readergrrl That‘s awesome! 1y

An interesting take on the classic. While the author/artist admits to taking some artistic license when translating for his work, the story and graphic portion seem to follow along fairly well. The sketching was a bit hard to follow - muted colors and drawings that were more sketch than finished drawing - but maybe that's just my inexperience with graphic novels and comic books.

Bored.

Carol I find with graphic reselling a of classic works I can't get into it if I don't love the art. Superficial but comics can bring stories alive, stories we may have passed on otherwise. What a bummer when they miss the opportunity to do something fantastic with art. 8y
Carol Retellings. Man, autocorrect was not having it! 😂 8y
queerbookreader @Carol It's weird, the guy who did this graphic novelization also did the Macbeth one I read a few weeks ago, and I liked Macbeth as a graphic novel just fine. Something about this one was so not engaging though, and I have too much to read to suffer through the whole thing 8y
