Unbroken Line of the Moon
Unbroken Line of the Moon | Johanne Hildebrandt
In this grand saga of love, war, and magic set in the tenth century, young Sigrid is destined to be the mother of the king of the Nordic lands that would become Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and England.A devout believer in the old Nordic gods, Sigrid is visited regularly in her dreams by the goddess Freya, who whispers to her of the future. Though Sigrid is beautiful, rich, arrogant, and matchlessly clever, her uncanny ability to foresee the future and manipulate the present guides her through dangerous politics as a bloody war between Vikings and Christians rages on.Sigrid s father wants her to marry Erik, a local king, to secure the peace between the Goths and the Swedes. Thinking she is doing Freya s will, she accepts the marriage offer, only to find that her destiny lies not with Erik but with Sweyn, a warrior who dreams of dethroning Harald Bluetooth, the legendary ruler of Denmark. Will Sigrid sacrifice her will for the greatest Viking kingdom of all time, or will she follow her heart at the risk of losing everything?"

I was going to use this for #readyoursign #cancer - book with Moon in the title/on the cover.
But it‘s another one I can‘t get through to even 10% .
Perhaps I will revisit this one. But I can‘t see myself in for 400+ pg for this.

Suet624 Hello fellow Cancerian! 4y
Sweettartlaura @Suet624 hello! Are you doing this, too? Did you find one with an orchid or white rose connection? 4y
Suet624 No, I thought I would do it but then I realized I have too many books to read AND I was feeling lazy. 😂 4y

Sweettartlaura @Suet624 but that‘s the fun 💁🏻‍♀️ - fit the books you have into the prompts you get 😜 4y
Sweettartlaura @Suet624 see now if I HAD The Orchid Thief, that would be perfect. But like you, I‘m trying to avoid getting/borrowing books when I already have too many 😊 4y

I read this last year during my quest to read #sff from authors outside the US. A brutal period of time within unforgiving regions, the book offers Norse mythology in the raw, as callous and gruesome as expected, but handled respectfully. I especially enjoyed the perspective of the story from Sigrid.

This was really good but it shoukd definitely come with trigger warnings for rape, sexual assault, and forced prostitution.
I wish I knew more about the accuracy of the history and religion, but it read well and the world building to include it was amazing. Everything moved along beautifully. There's an interesting exploration of the lives both men and women, but really focused on women and what they went through then. I really loved it.

BarbaraTheBibliophage I picked this up from Kindle First. Thanks for the review and the warnings. 7y
literarymermaid @BarbaraTheBibliophage I had gotten mine from them too but I paid for the audio upgrade, which was totally worth it. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Ah good call. Thanks for the heads up! 7y

I'm about half way through The Unbroken Line of the Moon and its really good so far. Started Princeless last night, so adorable & fun & timely. Started Another Brooklyn this morning and the writing is beautiful and I can't wait to see what happens. These are the books I'm #currentlyreading! #photoadaynov16 @RealLifeReading

After I ended the book I decided it was good after all and that I enjoyed it. To be honest if you had asked me half way through I would have said it wasn't a very good story. It takes a long time to fall in love with the characters and for the writing to hit the right pace but it was worth it in the end...

My bed companion while I give this book a try while I take a break from the 6th book in the Outlander series. I'm not far yet but it's been enjoyable so far ... "Meager booty is better than no booty" at least so says Ax-Wolf ?

A new Kindle First book this morning. Better get the one about the Vikings. #Favtimeperiod #HistoricalFiction

Laura317 I looked at that. I'm having trouble picking this month. There are several that intrigue me. 8y
annahenke Intrigued 8y
NerdyRev I had a hard time choosing between the Niagara Falls one and the detective one. I went with the detective one. 8y
sprainedbrain This is one of the three that interested me! It was hard to choose this time and usually isn't. 😜 8y
