The Nomination
The Nomination | Frederick Williams
1 post
The Nomination is the first novel to examine the struggle for control at the highest echelons of power within the Black community. It sets the stage for serious discussions about the effectiveness of black leaders after the civil rights movement of the 1960's. Congressman George Taylor is nominated to be the first Black United States Attorney General, his entire world crumbles. His daughter, strung out on crack cocaine, disappears and threatens his confirmation; his top aide, becomes entangled in a love triangle; and the Reverend Ransom Washington accuses him of being an insult to his leadership position in the Black community. A powerful Senator threatens to sabotage Taylor's nomination unless he joins a move to put an end to self-government in the District of Columbia. His final decision isn't made until the last few pages.
