Fairly formulaic, but a good story and easy reading. The story is of a female glassmaker in Murano, a rarity in 1500s Venice. What I found completely odd was a time skipping element that never really took hold - essentially the story spans six centuries but the main characters stay the same, yet never acknowledge this is happening - and I‘m not quite sure what that was adding or was intending to do other than illustrate “time alla Veneziana.”

Time isn't the same for Murano glassmakers, and so we travel through centuries with the same family, discovering their trade, their ordeals, and how the outside world influenced their glassmaking process.
Well-written, I enjoyed the parts about the glassmaking process, and the evolution of the trade.

Books 62-65 of the year.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a glassmaking family through time. The way in which it skips through time while focusing on the same family is a fascinating storytelling technique, and it includes so many interesting details about glassmaking in Murano and the history of Venice.

Excellent historical fiction from Tracy Chevalier, as always, with a conceit I didn't like at first, but quickly warmed to.

I‘m really enjoying May‘s @litsybookclub book! I‘ve always glass blowing. As a kid whenever we went to Silverdollar city we would always watch the glassblowers. Interestingly, the glass blowers were confined to one island off of Italy to help protect their glass blowing secrets!

A kindle bargain and so I had to try it!
I liked the concept though it became easier once I understood the timing and century spanning.
The main character was well done, though she wasn't great with her family at times. I liked the ongoing dolphin packages and the finale of that.
I thought the climate bit from her granddaughter was a little bandwagon esque...

Read for book club. Sped-read by me yesterday 😬. Liked by most in my club. A reasonably page-turning story of Murano glass makers in Venice, commencing in the 1400s. A time-warping device takes the reader through time to the present day.
