3 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Detective James Cross has been honorably discharged from the Army Criminal Investigation Division due to wounds sustained when an IED blew up near him. Now with the Lake City Police Department, he's rooming with this good buddy and partner, Cole, while he figures out his family dynamics. Physician Assistant Lainie Jackson is eighteen months out from an attempted murder perpetrated by her ex, which ended when she managed to grab the weapon and shoot him. When he appears to have survived and is back to finish the job he started, Lainie insists it's not possible. But someone keeps trying to kill her, and she keeps seeing his face. Together, Lainie and James must work together to find out who, exactly, is after her and why he wants her dead. And failure is not an option. USA Today bestselling author Lynette Eason will leave you breathless with this fast-paced first book in a brand-new series.

I really enjoyed this one. It was what you would expect from Eason, she really has this genre down. I don't think you can read Christian suspense without coming across her books. This was the first book in the series and I can't wait to see where things go. I'm already invested in some of the secondary characters and hope they will get books soon.

18 months ago, Lainie killed her ex-boyfriend in self-defense, when he showed up in her home and attempted to murder her. But now, she's seeing him again, and he seems determined to have his revenge. Is it really him? If not, who else would be stalking her? Throw in a bit of romance from her best friend's brother, now a good-looking cop, and you have a pretty standard Eason thriller. This one was a bit of a soft pick because the motivations ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) of the bad guy seemed a little odd to me, and any time you have a “he wants you dead!“ but then he bypasses multiple opportunities to make her dead... it mildly annoys me lol But I did really like the characters, and I always appreciate that Eason works Christianity into her stories in a way that feels natural. I'm sure I'll pick up the next book in this new series.

This book was so intense! I was so tempted to just flip to the end to find out how it ended, just so I could get some relief from the stress and suspense! But, I didn‘t. This story will take you on a nail-biting roller coaster ride!

I received this book from the author for my honest review.
