Great pop-science book on off earth space settlements. Examines more factors in taking human life into space and/or other planets than I ever considered.
Just re-enforces my belief that we need to fix our planet.

This book looks at space colonization, whether it be Mars or the moon, and looks at all the reasons why it is so very unlikely to occur (sorry Jeff and Elon). It‘s quite interesting and they clearly take a cue from Mary Roach on the humor front, though with slightly less success. A low pick for me.
I concur with the cover blurb from Andy Weir: scientific, educational and fun as hell. Kelly Weinersmith is a bioscientist, her husband Zach is a cartoonist, and they both consider themselves tech geeks. They are all for space exploration and eventual settlement off this planet… but only after we get some very important kinks worked out. If you liked Packing for Mars by Mary Roach, this book is for you.
Leaving a 2 degrees warmer Earth for Mars, which has an average surface temperature of -60, would be like leaving a messy room so you can go live in a toxic dump.

A fascinating dive into the several fields of study that interweave in the discussion of space settlements. A digestible yet broad amount of obscure information accompanied by clever illustrations and witty asides.
I loved this one, which was my #BookSpin for the month! And I'm making #BookSpinBingo progress too.
The Weinersmiths are pretty pessimistic about the current likelihood of space settlement, for a range of reasons -- lack of knowledge about the biology, lack of technology to do important things, and lack of a legal framework that prevents conflict -- which... is sad, but makes a lot of sense. It's a fun read, too!
Yep, I'm gonna try join back in with #BookSpin this year! Here's my #BookSpinBingo card for January, and the tagged book is my first target since it's the #BookSpin choice. I got it for Christmas and I've been curious, but kind of saving it... guess BookSpin's telling me the time is now.
I guess I have a bingo line shaping up, too, from my reads so far. (I wrote my list before looking at the numbers, so I'd feel OK to count books read already.)
