The Woods Vol. 2
The Woods Vol. 2 | James Tynion IV
10 posts | 14 read | 6 to read
On October 16, 2013, 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff from Bay Point Preparatory High School in suburban Milwaukee, WI vanished without a trace, finding themselves countless light years away in the middle of an ancient, primordial wilderness. One year prior, the school held its first rendition of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," on a night that would prove fateful to both the students and faculty, as their lives crossed paths in an almost premonitory way, seeding the various horrors to come. Created and written by James Tynion IV (Batman Eternal) and illustrated by Michael Dialynas (Amala's Blade), "The Swarm" collects the critically acclaimed second arc (issues #5-8) of the best-selling series.

Such a great story line so far. The kids are still in a different world and dealing with aliens, evil forest and a big cat. Their captors are not really bad but one of their own might be. Good graphics and I'm starting to like the characters.

High school teens. Scary monsters. An off-world adventure. The Woods is 💯.

Eyelit I just binge read 5 volumes of this series. Loving it! 7y
Jokila @Eyelit I binged the first 5 too! 😂 I‘m looking forward to finding out what happens (the last issue just dropped but I‘m going to wait for the trades) 7y
Eyelit You‘ve got more patience than I do. Hoopla has the last issues and as soon as I can borrow again I‘m going to totally finish the series 😆 7y

I don't know why I keep trying to get into this series. I enjoyed the first volume well enough--the premise is compelling and the art is phenomenal--but I was unimpressed by the characters' storylines. After two years I sought out volume 2 hoping some of the kinks had been worked out. Sadly I enjoyed it a little less. Maybe third time's the charm? #TheWoods

I liked this one quite a bit more than volume 1! I'm not really that into alien survival stories haha, but the characters just keep growing on me, and it gets lots of extra points for the well-developed queer romance, which definitely seems like a rarity in my comics experience. Really looking forward to the next volumes! (Graphic novel # 4 of my 11 days/11 graphic novels)

Love the world they have created. This volume gives more backstory and has some really neat twists. It pulled at my heart strings too. I will for sure continue reading their story. Stones don't break!

It wouldn't be Friday without some comics!!

Laura317 Looks good, although at first I thought it said the Oods (Doctor Who). THAT would be an interesting story, too!! 8y
Blair_Reads @Laura317 a comic about the Oods would be awesome! I really like them on Doctor Who! This is a story about aliens but not those 😊 8y
Sue @Laura317 I though the same thing and got really excited for a moment lol 8y
