'An emotional and heart-warming story about community spirit, grief, and hope, The Book Club by Roisin Meaney is everything you could wish for in a novel and then some' Books of All Kinds In the small seaside town of Fairweather, the local book club - a tight-knit group - is still reeling in the aftermath of a tragic accident. Lil Noonan hasn't spoken a word since, and her grandmother Beth is worried that she plans to spend the rest of her life hidden away with only books for company. Beth, meanwhile, is trying to keep busy with the running of the local library and decides to make a fresh start by renting out her daughter's now-empty house to a newcomer in town. Tom McLysaght tells the book club that he's eager to escape his high-flying life in London. Closer to the truth is that he's hiding a much bigger secret, one he can't escape from, no matter how hard he tries. As the months pass and the book club continues to meet, Beth starts to open up to the idea that the future might still have some happiness to offer to her grand-daughter - and to her as well. But will they have the courage to reach for it? And will Tom trust them enough to reveal his secret?

Hi Littens! Quick question for y‘all: Do you have any advice on finding an IRL bookclub? I can‘t go back to my last one (a coworker invited me to hers, apparently just to get dirt on me to trash me at work), but I really enjoyed it while it lasted, and I really, REALLY need to get out more and make some new friends (I‘m not doing well lately). Has anyone used Meetup? Have you found good groups? Would it work for an extreme introvert like me? TIA!

Soscha Check either/or your local library or local bookstore. 11mo
Soscha It‘s been awhile since I‘ve used meetup but it‘s worth a try, especially for writers groups. 11mo
Desha When I lived in San Diego I used Meetup and found two really good book clubs! I think it depends on where you‘re located whether people are holding book clubs in your area. But it‘s definitely worth a try!! Best of luck! ♥️📚 11mo

dabbe Bookclubs.com has both online and IRL clubs. I'm sorry you're not doing well. If you lived near me, I'd love to be in a club with you! 💙💚💙 11mo
TheAromaofBooks Hey Maggie!!! Just checking in to see if you ever mailed The Fortnight in September? I haven't received it, and I just wanted to make sure it wasn't lost in the mail!! Hope you're doing well!! 11mo
Maggie4483 @TheAromaofBooks I am SO SORRY. I just went to pick up a package in my mail room, and found that your package had been sent back to me. It looks like I transposed two numbers in your zip code 🤦🏻‍♀️. I will put it in the mail with The Grand Sophy tomorrow or Thursday. And I promise I‘ll get your address right this time. I am so, SO sorry!!! 11mo
TheAromaofBooks Aaaa no worries!!! I know exactly how that goes!!! I just had this vague memory that you told me you had mailed it, but then it never arrived and I just couldn't remember where we were in the process!! 😂 I'll just let @inthegreensandblues know that The Fortnight in September is going to be a little late getting there!!! I'll send it along as soon as I read it!! 11mo
TheAromaofBooks Hey Maggie!! The books arrived safe and sound. Thank you!!! 11mo
Maggie4483 @TheAromaofBooks I'm glad they made it! Sorry again for being such a flake. 10mo
TheAromaofBooks Hey no worries, life happens. 😂 At least the books got here - I have also done rounds of #LMPBC where the books just... went to never-never land! 10mo

I think lately there's an abuse of the recourse of writing chapters from different POV and doing jumps in time and it doesn't work in every story.
This book is about recovering from loss, four characters, each has gone through some mayor trauma. Two of them when you meet them they have already gone through the grieving, they are neither recovered nor recovering, it's about loss but doesn't have a soul, it's just people going on with their lives.⬇️

nanuska_153 The other two characters are currently grieving, one doesn't speak and we only get her thoughts when she recovers her voice, so we also miss the process. The other even though he is going through something, the author decides to play what happened to him as flashbacks, to try to shock us with a revelation that's totally predictable. ⬇️ 1y
nanuska_153 By doing that she just takes the conflict out of the story, because we don't know what the character is going through until he suddenly decides to forgive and forget: he is sad, he goes for walks and he does woodwork, for almost 500 pages 1y
