This was a fascinating anthology. It's labeled as horror, but there was a bonkers sci-fi story by Laird Barron, a speculative Ken Liu about post-pandemic tourism that actually felt very real to me, a quiet & haunting post apocalyptic Tim Lebbon story. Then there are the horror stories: Jonathan Maberry with a brilliant twist, Owl Goingback with a pandemic story with a horror twist, Ramsey Campbell's work about an editor that will stick in my 👇

vivastory mind for awhile. I have yet to read a full Campbell book but have read several stories by him the past few months and every single one has been incredible. A themed anthology with a horror emphasis, but plenty of surprises. 1y
TrishB There‘s a big Campbell display in the book shop on campus at the moment, don‘t know if it‘s an anniversary (he‘s from Liverpool 😁). I read him a lot in the 80s. 1y
vivastory @TrishB Really?! That's awesome! Do you have any favorites that you would recommend? I read The Pretence in the tagged anthology a couple of months ago & thought it was completely brilliant. Have been a fan since 1y

Reggie Idk if you follow horror Twitter but Laird is barely coming out of being super sick. They put a pic of him up like 2 weeks ago and he looks like skin and bones. John Langan was with him a lot in the hospital. 1y
TrishB I‘ve been searching the covers but obviously they‘ve all changed since the 80s. There was a really spooky one with a cracked dolls face on it but I can‘t for the life of me remember the title. My teens are a life time ago! 1y
vivastory @Reggie I left Twitter a couple of months ago for my sanity. I did hear that Barron wasn't doing well through a booktube video. I noticed that there's a fundraiser up to help cover medical costs. 1y

I read several stories in this while at the library earlier. It's fortunate that the Evenson was not one of them, as the other patrons might have been concerned due to my reactions while reading. Thanks for the nightmare fuel, Brian!

I was reminded of this wonderful word while reading Mark Morris ' Friends For Life in the tagged book. A predictable story but very well constructed. Malodorous is another great nominee for #weirdwords
